China is buying billions in US farmland and lawmakers are scrambling to try to stop them.

U.S. lawmakers are acting with increased concern as Chinese purchasers are buying tens of thousands of acres of U.S. farmland.

As of the start of 2020, Chinese investors owned about 192,000 acres of U.S. agricultural land valued at about $1.9 billion, according to Politico. While Chinese land ownership in the U.S. is less than that of other foreign nations, the growth in Chinese land ownership is part of an overall trend in China rapidly buying up other country’s farmland over more than a decade.

Historically oil has been the major cause for conflict.

And oil is one of major reasons for our ME presence.

When food becomes short and unavailable, desperation will bring about true insanity worldwide.

It's all bad news for the Brady Bunch.

China looks at us like Iran looks at Israel.

It should be illegal to sell any land to our declared enemies, especially our farmlands.

Because of China's population, it has been predicted for years that China would run out of food. China knows how to cook a carrot, to feed many.

I don't know, Walmart can't even feed me. They are gaining a lot of empty shelfing without being able to replenish anything. Walmart already buys everything from China. Maybe China should start shopping Mexico???

China isn't the only one with flooding problems and likely food shortages including some of their current suppliers. Europe, Australia...a bunch of places are having flooding problems and the interesting thing I have heard a time or two now is that this flooding has something to do with the lunar cycle.

What if we get flooded? What if Canada gets flooded?

What if we get scorched by drought while other places drown?

Owning farmland in an enemy's territory in an emergency is not a great place to be.

That isn't even good in a friend's territory.

What if they say, "Uh...sorry. This is an emergency. Real b***h about your investments."?

I seem to remember Mexico doing that to some oil companies.

That can be null & voided in a split second. Relying on an adversary for food is not a very secure position. Relying on half the world, most of which you've pissed off, is worse.
