I've always felt that what eventually "trickles down" is mostly what those on top and in subsequent deeper layers discard as useless. Economies and populations, alike.

Having rescued him the day before his k**l date at the shelter at 8 weeks of age, you'd think he would be grateful of the "rescue," yet he still bristles at the "k**l" part. So, we don't bring it up.

He grew up on the farm regulating the rodent population in the barn. Early retirement has been hard on him. He has another accessed bite on his butt for the vet to lance. I saw the offending intruder enter our lawn from an upstairs window, realized he was napping on the back deck, but the intruder was dispatched and sent packing after a furious skirmish before I could get down the stairs. Seemed okay til this weekend when I found the swollen lump.

I don't want to be the one who has to tell him he has to lose weight so as to be able to reach his backside to g***m himself better to possibly avoid this outcome in the future...

Are you familiar with Hemingway cats in Key West?

Vaguely. Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest stock? Huge cats.

Mr Grey is huge for a regular tabby, 21 lbs, yet only slightly obese, according to the vet. With a second cat in the house, I'm having trouble knowing who is eating what and I think they are capitalizing on my confusion.

Hemingway cats are unique:

Bandit, a 20+ pound black Hemingway cat was a true Key West laid back no cares in the world type.
We had some cabinets in the pool area that was his hangout, he would open the doors and climb into the top drawer to nap.
Unfortunately, we lost him due to old age a few years ago.
Although some polydactyl cat parents have claimed that their cats are smarter than an average. That's because their cats can switch off the lights, open cupboards and doors, and so on. The cat parents put all the credit to their extra 'thumb' that allows them to do all that. Indeed, it's a grasping ability!
