Agreed!!!! They also have you at their mercy not knowing what costs what, no disclosure for a reason.. Then you read of their profit portfolio and get sick all over again!!
Even though hospitals in the U.S. are paid an average of less than 30% of what they bill, their profits margins have averaged around 8% in recent years, tell you anything?? Then it is said some 80% of hospitals are non profit.. I guess, given what they are paid in overcharges they don’t need the private sector to profit.. Unbelievable the fraud involved...

When I went to college in the late 70's full-time tuition was $210 a semester and I could pay for my food and housing with Pell grants and work-study. Today, a modest college is $6000 a semester plus. The reason for the difference is inflation and because federal and state governments have cut their subsidies. So why do we expect our children and grandchildren to pay for their education when the federal and state governments largely paid for ours? Hell, the part of my education that I borrowed money on I repaid in a year or two. Our children and grandchildren are staddled with a debt we were never asked to pay so why are we asking them?

The reason is not just inflation dummy. The main reason is easy government loans. There is no incentive for colleges to curb costs and or compete with others. However, tuition and fees at four-year National Universities are significantly outpacing inflation. The total consumer price index inflation increased by around 50% from August 2000 to August 2020, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. I paid my own college expenses by working and saving plus a partial scholarship. Why should my taxes pay some other persons college expense? Dam you wasted what ever degree you received.

The boomers as a group have always been greedy takers. They enjoyed secure jobs with old age pensions as a birthright. Their educations were heavily and happily subsided by the greatest generation now that it is our duty to pay it forward they wrongly claim we can’t afford to.

So your dumb idea of being able to afford something is take money from an account 20 some trillion in debt and add to it. I see you weren't an economics major.

When a corporation bankrupts it costs taxpayers plenty, why not hold shareholders personally responsible proportional to their holdings? Even beyond their investment. I would much rather bail out a working family than Goldman Sacks.

Are you EVEN AWARE that 92% of Student Loans are held by the US Government??

Stupid idea but better than forgiveness. How about holding the real culprits accountable. Government for making these loans so easily obtained and giving colleges no incentives to lower costs? Why do you parasites constantly want to fix everything by charging the tax payer?

I missed this, must have been posting??
You nailed it, J!!!

To answer you because its easier to take our money than hold those truly responsible for their own decisions...

Truly a need to hold these price gauging colleages accountable for their robbery.. Government will not, however, because even with the supposed incentives for colleges to broaden their student base they too make plenty off of them in taxes .. Vicious cycle..

Absolutely not.

First: A slap in the face of those who have paid their debts.

Second: sends a bad message about personal responsibility and sound decision making.

Third: costly at a projected 1 trillion dollars.

Totally agree!!!

NO if they want that education then they pay for it like everyone else. Though the government might want to put a cap on higher learning cost are outrageous

What about online degrees? You can get one for a fraction of the cost of attending a University. Better yet, tech schools are also online and cheaper still. I have a degree in graphic arts and earned it online. And I did it with a government grant. With few exceptions, such as medical school or nuclear physics, brick and mortar colleges are obsolete.

Yes, the brick and mortar colleges are obsolete .. EXCEPT for the kids that go there to join sororities and fraternities ... and to PARTY. I mean, what would these kids do without Greek parties and spring break trips to Cancun to look forward to???

Should we working citizens paid the debt on all those who are not working, don’t care to work and use up every resource they can??

They chose it, they live with it...

Help the ones truly disenfranchised for a short period of time, making sure children are fed, protected and schooled etc but from there where there is a will there is a way..

We had a candidate running for US Senator in our State complaining about trying to pay off his & his wife's student longs. They are multi-millionaires & have been for years

I personally know a lawyer who retired 3 years ago, paid over $1,000,000.00 cash for homes for her two daughters, owns $millions in other real estate & is still paying minimum on her loans & complaining about it.
