interesting fact since the dept. of education was established our gov' education system has dropped from number one to barely in the top twenty in the world....

Last I saw the US rated 27th in healthcare and in education, ranked 38th...Terrible regardless of why.. Spending cuts (budgets) and spending habits along with that pathetic common core dumb downing, rather than raising education standards... Truly pathetic and why states should have control.. At least that's what I feel..

Excellent point, Gatsby. Also, perhaps everyone who paid for a college degree without getting loans .. people who worked and saved for it ... or whose parents worked and saved and sacrificed for it ... and those who worked during college instead of partying through four years to pay for it .. should be reimbursed. It seems only fair to me.

You just described my PhD daughter, except for the parents part. We contributed very little to her expensed. She did apply for and receive some scholarships and grants from private groups. She then helped her husband pay off his student loans. IMHO using tax money to pay off or forgiving student loans would be a huge slap in the face to both of them.
I've created more debt than I should have during my life but I have paid them off and believe that I should not be taxed to pay off the debts of people who will be paid 2 or 3 times what I ever was paid.
My opinion -- No pay off, no forgiveness!
You made the debt, You pay it off.

Absolutely. It's all about individual responsibility. And congrats to your daughter with her PhD. You must be very proud of her!

Tuition can only raise by 2% a year...

And universities set courses that may require a student to attend classes anywhere from 1-7 days a week...

Regardless, the thread is about what should be done concerning debt today... Having millions of in debted workers is not healthy for an economy....

Taking/taxing another person's income or property to pay off another persons debt isn't either!!!

That's socialism, that's what they're teaching them. That's where they want them!
Capitalism, old school! You earn/pay for what you get!

I’m not sure it is immigrants as much as certain racial and ethnics..Like b****s and hispanics..???

Poverty driven impacts these two races more so than others..

Asians well educated and do best in our schools, universities etc..

Our constant budget cuts to the Dept. of Education and haphazard lowered standards has left our children a victim of the system that is so dysfunctional they have no true format or standards of excellence anymore.. It's all about passing them regardless of the lack of educational sk**ls they did not learn...

NO. It's a LOAN.....you borrow money, you pay it back....doesn't matter what
you borrowed the money for.

Forgive these loans, you now have to reimburse all those who PAID their loans.
