Now, to bring this down to your elementary level, I’ll try a different path. If you shine a light through glass is there a shadow? No. Why? Glass is t***sparent. Is a flame t***sparent? Or at least t***slucent?

I was referring to the matchstick shadow. There’s another light source .
If the flame was to cast a shadow of the “stick” it would be below, not beside.
