I've had some experiences with skunks myself, although I never had one as a pet.

My cousin and I rode our motorcycles from CA to FL once, years ago. It was in the summer and because it was so hot we decided to take a more northerly route through CO.

When we left the Rockies we went through a little place called Hasty.

At that time there was a general store/post office/gas station there and my cousin needed a welder to fix something broken on his bike.

The lady at the store told us her husband had a welder on his truck and if we could wait an hour he'd be back. All this time I was thinking, do I smell skunk?

About that time a farmer from across the HWY came in and asked for help loading an engine onto the back of his pickup...so we went with him and got it boosted.

He took us back to the store and when the lady came from behind the register a skunk was on her heels!

I said to her, "I thought smelled skunk when I walked in!"

She laughed and told me that someone stepped on her tail (girl skunk) and she sprayed a little...involuntary reaction.

I picked the skunk up and petted her. She loved it. They're pretty laid-back as animals go.

Years later a mama skunk had babies under the floor of my HOUSE in CA!

I became very familiar with her babies!

They treated me like part of the furniture once they were used to me.

They got too big to live under the floor of the house and moved into my hay barn.

Never made pets of them but I could work within 3 feet of them and they were fine with it.

That's laid back!

A skunk as a pet? There's no way I'd want a liberal as one.

Cheaper than a wife and usually less trouble.

Animals teach me whole different side of myself.

This is the General Chit Chat section.

Can you chit chat with us?

That would be nice!

Had any experience with skunks?

They're really cute!

Sorry didn’t see the memo.
As a matter fact if I do have a story about skunks.
Camping In Vermont one time I got up early to walk my Lab. They’re supposed to be on leashes always. Once we got in the woods I bent down to unhook him and the very minute I did , we both saw the skunk. But it was too late. The dog grabbed him and flipped him in the air. This really pissed the skunk off.
He turned and sprayed my dog full face.
Consequently he also stunk up the campground unmercifully!
You should’ve heard them.
Too funny.

Ya...I had a lab who got skunked once in a while. He was so mild-mannered the only thing I could figure was he tried to make friends with them.

Just be careful, skunks and raccoons are both Big carriers of rabies. Cute critters yes, but potentially deadly.

We had a German shepherd mastiff mix. She looked like a purebred shepherd but bulkier. She liked chasing most of the farm cats up trees or fence posts. One night we were cleaning stalls and Crystal was running lose around the barn. On one of the trips to dump the wheelbarrow, she spotted one of those black and white 'kitties' and had to chase it. It ran into a pipe. She stuck her head in to keep it moving and promptly got sprayed. She came back to the barn, my wife and kids screamed at her to stay away. I closed the stall door so I didn't have to deal with her. I don't know how she did it but she got rid of the skunk scent in 24 hours. She didn't like skunks and after that we didn't see skunks any where around.

I woke up to go to work one day and when I entered the living room I see a skunk...on my coffee table...eating Oreo cookies!

Just a baby, it exited to the heater vent in the floor which it had pushed up. No spray.

They were used to me by that time...I even got to play with one of them once.

Skunks kick a$$!

I don’t think it works that way. I was immunized when I worked at the animal rehabilitation hospital, but that was 40 years ago.

Coming home from the store late one night we had a surprise waiting at the end of our driveway. The bridge was closed east of us for repairs, so there was no oncoming traffic and the road to the west was marked local traffic only. I don't remember if it was cloudy or there was no moon, but it was pitch black. As I got close to the driveway, we could see shapes in the road. For whatever reason, my wife thought the shadows looked like her ducks walking around. She yelled at me to stop so we could herd the 'ducks' the quarter mile back up to the house. I didn't see ducks, I saw skunks. She started to get mad and yell at me when I didn't stop, then she saw her 'ducks' were skunks. We ended up laughing about it later.
