On March 26, The Daily Wire published an article centering on the Obama administration’s role in using and allegedly failing to replenish the federal stockpile of N95 masks.

“The Obama administration significantly depleted the federal stockpile of N95 respirator masks to deal with the H1N1 influenza outbreak in 2009 and never rebuilt the stockpile despite calls to do so,” the piece begins.

The article draws from the reporting of outlets including Bloomberg News and the Los Angeles Times. According to Bloomberg News, “after the H1N1 influenza outbreak in 2009, which triggered a nationwide shortage of masks and caused a 2- to 3-year backlog orders for the N95 variety, the stockpile distributed about three-quarters of its inventory and didn’t build back the supply.”

“After the swine flu epidemic in 2009, a safety-equipment industry association and a federally sponsored task force both recommended that depleted supplies of N95 respirator masks, which filter out airborne particles, be replenished by the stockpile,” the Los Angeles Times reported.

The Trump administration refused to use the Obama administrations "Playbook for Early Response to High-Consequence Emerging Infection Disease Threats and Biological Incidents" handed them by the Obama t***sition team. The 69-page document, finished in 2016, provided a step by step list of priorities – which were then ignored by the administration. You should read this document, its pretty telling on why we are in the current state, he ignored the playbook completely.

The Trump Administration in May 2018, did away with the office responsible for p******c preparedness within the National Security Council. Their job was to coordinate policy and to work with departments and agencies to make sure that we had the programs in place to prepare for the next p******c, and to be more agile in responding. In June of 2016 the stockpile held approximately 7 billion in supplies. The stockpile was started in 1999 and initially had some 50 million in supplies, so it grew substantially during the Obama years.

I’m not defending Obama, told you several times oh dense one that Obama has been gone 3.5 years. He has really nothing to do with the current situation.

Can’t wait to see your proof. Oh let me guess. Obama did not replace the N-95 masks distributed during the H1N1 epidemic in 2009. Nope he didn’t.

2010 the house & senate went republican, funding became tight and a decision was made to use the available funding to stockpile critical drugs that were hard to acquire.

Perhaps in hindsight he should have used the funds for masks. But at the time masks were far easier to get on the open market than the medicines were.

Regardless, that did not play any major roll in the current p******c, and even though we have had months to build production capacity, we are now once again on the verge of PPE shortages.

The Defense Production Act has STILL not been instituted in any meaningful way. This response has been total crap.

If we want to get over this we all need to play our part. Start living in the present, the past is not helping.
