I Want To Ask All OPP Members For a Favor

Hello all,

Politics aside, I want to ask a favor of all of you. If what I'm asking of you is too much, by all means, please feel free to move right along.

What I want to ask of you is quite simple. I want to ask you all to do just a little bit of research on what is happening at this very moment in Brazil and also in Mexico (but definitely Brazil - save Mexico for later if you wish). I am not going to provide any links, quotes or anything of that kind as I want you to read the sites that you trust. Furthermore, I want to urge you to watch the nightly news (again, choose whichever channel you trust) tomorrow night and the day after that. Those of us who have been doing this have seen very chilling images of massively humongous mass graves filled, being filled, yet to be filled and still being dug around the clock. There is no shortage of work for backhoe operators in either country. In fact, they are having a hard time keeping up with the pace of deaths.

Why am I asking this of you? I'm asking this of you because I want my fellow Americans to continue on the decent path we've been on thus far. I am all for opening up asap. I think we all are. And I think most of us agree that it is time.

What I want to remind you of is this: we got here largely due to social distancing (I'm not going to even discuss masks anymore as it seems everyone has made up their minds on that issue one way or the other already - I'm strictly talking about distancing and not masks). Please don't underestimate how vital that was and still is. For those of you who don't believe social distancing helped us immensely, look no further than Brazil and Mexico. These two countries are lagging behind in grave digging for a few reasons but, in my opinion, the leading one is clearly lack of social distancing. It simply works. And these two countries did not implement that tool (they couldn't - we can). It's been proven to work in several countries (South Korea, China, even here in the great U.S.A, etc.). One of the precious few tools we have at our disposal to fight this crap is the ability to pay attention to what's happening in other countries - those hit before us as well as those behind us. We should take every advantage of that.

A major motivation for me to post this was the disturbing images I've seen lately on TV of places in Missouri and several other states of crowds partying literally elbow to elbow. The dumbest person on Earth should know that this is very unwise behavior at this moment in time.

In short, party on, America. Go have a ton of fun. Just please be smart going about it. As corny as it sounds and as much as some people are tired of hearing it, we really are all in this together. Indeed, the slogan "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" has never rung truer. I feel social distancing for a little while longer is a small price to pay in order to get (and keep) the economy going and to minimize CV-19 cases/deaths at the same time. Don't believe me? Just ask Brazil. Or Mexico.

There’s nothing wrong with wearing mask whenever you go out ,especially since my mom is 82 and had a stroke !

I am just not that convinced that little cloth masks make that much difference, the info is back & forth on that matter. I do believe people in health services need masks, good ones that will help N95 or better, but for the rest of use, better hygiene and a little distancing should help. I do believe in the "herd immunity" theory as it has seemed to work through-out history in times of p******cs.

I can appreciate that and yes, you are protecting your mom which I doubt is going out anywhere.

I'm in same boat - Mom is 84 w/ several underlying conditions. Young people are dying and spreading it too, remember.

One of the things which we know spreads this v***s is population density, I think here in USA, NYC, NJ, DC and other heavily-populated areas prove this, also places in Europe. Unfortunately SA and Mexico have areas of very dense population, poor sanitation & areas of poverty and lack of proper nutrition! All of these things seem to be playing out now in those countries. Other than sending supplies, health personnel & funds, I doubt if there is really anymore that can be done.

When tragedies such as earthquakes hit these countries there is also little more than we can do to help! The only way these things can be lessened is by changing the corruptness in there Governments so that the people have more support and sadly that does not seem to happen!

This might be a good test for the Hydroxychloroquine/zinc medication, very cheap & easy to produce, given to a large part of the population, might help! I KNOW I KNOW some would scream to high-heaven about that idea, but as Trump tried to point out "what have you got to lose", I imagine if it were offered there people might jump at a chance to try it! It has been proved save for over 60 years for some illnesses! The scare over that drug is definitely political!

I agree with the social distancing. The thing about masks, the cloth ones slow down water droplets so they won't travel as far but a v***s will pass right through. The N95 mask will only work on a clean shaven face, and again v***ses are very small. If you were glasses and they fog up, chances are v***ses are escaping. Most people I see with masks are wearing them improperly, only one strap or straps in the wrong place, etc.I may not be an expert , but I've worn a mask almost every day for over 10 years in my job as AA certified asbestos remover and union insulator. So I do know what I'm texting about. Social distancing is our best defence with or without masks.

I don't know if I would treat the media reports of mass grave digging as the absolute t***h or as truly representative. Here in NYC alone we have had about the same number of deaths as the entire country of Brazil and we weren't digging mass graves here; keep in mind that Brazil has about 1000 times the land area of NYC.

I disagree, strongly. I studied a dozen or so of the pictures in the Ozarks and in Florida. After looking at hundreds of people I managed to identify ONE man who looked to be in his mid 50's. Every single other person in all of these pictures was WELL under the age of 40. This is exactly what very young people at almost zero risk of death from C****-** should be doing, out working, socializing, interacting and selflessly infecting each other to build herd immunity so that the safely sheltering elderly will not get infected and die when it is time to let them out again. If all young people acted like this we could defeat C****-** long before we can get a v*****e mass distributed and the next "wave" of infection will be a ripple. Unfortunately, everyone has been so terrified by the gross exaggerations of the CDC, MSM and Democrats this will probably not happen.

The mass graves were not "reported". I saw them. You will too if you watch the news. The footage of these huge makeshift graveyards are for all to see with their own eyes on a nightly basis.
