I I now have to say something, I spos I would say... why is it in anyway better for a minority of citizen to install the ruling administration then it would be for the majority of citizen to do so?

that, while I do see your point... why should a particular group of Americans be held out of having input to our government policies? that is as bad as v**er suppression..

the local war vets group is having a service today, in-spite of a limited shut down still in effect.. I will be attending.. but I also will stand back...

I think we are on the down side of the curve.. and I at the moment do not care..

What would happen if the E*******l College was abolished?
America would become like every single other constitutional democracy on Earth.

The horror.

Rural white men who are nominally Christian would no longer be able to rule America despite being a minority. They would still have disproportionate power in the Senate, but they would no longer be able to elect a President without having to moderate their extremism so as to form coalitions with other groups.

The effect would be a two party system more moderate than the highly polarized one we now have, with the majority of Americans living resentfully under the oppression of an entitled dogmatic, hostile minority.

The Republicans, who would never again elect a President as long as they only represented rural reactionaries, can’t admit any of this.

So they concoct BS answers to dance around their real belief: that they have the God-given right to rule the rest of us, and democracy be damned.

They say no entrenched minority ever gives up power willingly. I don’t know how generally that’s true but it sure is true in this case. I have yet to meet a Republican who admits the t***h of what they really believe.

What’s scary is that as the challenge to their unrighteous d******n over the rest of us mounts, they’ve become more and more f*****tic / authoritarian in response.

You are a person after my own heart, even if I disagree with most of what you are saying. I, too, am looking for serious discussion without name calling. To make an attempt to answer your point, I think the E*****rial College serves a very valid purpose. It keeps heavily populated states from using their large numbers to rule over less crowded areas. We are NOT, and were never intended to be, a direct democracy. Every direct democracy in history has failed because the ill informed, uninterested, and least successful citizens discovered they could v**e to rob from the "haves" and take it for themselves. No country can survive that for long. The E*****rial College is the method chosen by our founders to unit a multitude of extremely varied States, and this gives each State, regardless of population, a say in the Union. It is the same reason that each State has two senators, while the House Reps are by population. It is a compromise that is proven to work. It is also why we have a Constitution, that is supposed to be inviolate. Yet we see the Democrats on a decades long campaign to go around it and attack it. They forget that the Constitution is what protects ALL of us from the most sinister, selfserving, petty, and immoral entity ever created by man.....government bureaucracy. And THAT is what would be the bad outcome of direct e******n of the President. I do not agree that a more moderate government would prevail. I think it would put the fox in the hen house.

What did the constitution have to say about religious groups and churches being on a different set of rules than the rest of society in states?

A blue state governor has every right to set guidelines and restrictions those who put them in office support, and what makes a church so special that they as a group don't have to follow group size orders that are for the good of the whole? They congregate and have proved that large outbreaks can often occur as a result.

Give churches special privileges and exceptions and you have to give them to Muslims and other religious groups as well.

The majority elects the governance they want, and the minority has to go along with it, the e*******l college is allowing the ever shrinking minority that is the hard right to call the shots, religiously inspired actions are just part of that.
