At one point, I did believe it came from the wet markets, I do not believe it any longer. I have read everything I can find and even some Aisian blogs. They seem to agree that China's patient zero was a lab worker who has since "disappeared."

A memo from the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology is seen as a tacit admission that some kind of incident may have occurred at the W***n lab. The ministry issued a directive mandating more stringent handling of v***ses and bioagents by all labs and research institutes. Another Asian source explains, after the 2003 SARS epidemic, the government of China initiated a plan to construct a national high-level biosafety laboratory system to prepare for and respond to future infectious disease outbreaks.

This led to the establishment of the Biosafety Level 4 laboratory -- the W***n National Biosafety Laboratory (Level 4). The move was part of a plan to build between five and seven biosafety level-4 (BSL-4) labs across the Chinese mainland by 2025.

Laboratories are classified into biocontainment levels 1 to 4, depending on the pathogenicity of microbes investigated. Biosafety Level 4 (BSL-4) laboratories investigate the most dangerous pathogens and have maximum biocontainment levels.

Over the last two decades, numerous infectious diseases, including Ebola, Marburg Hemorrhagic Fever, Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, Lassa Fever, SARS, Avian Influenza A (H5N1), Rift Valley Fever, and Nipah and Hendra v***l diseases, have emerged and re-emerged, posing serious threats to public health.

Within the framework of the Sino-French Cooperation Agreement on Emerging Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control, signed in October 2004, China constructed its first BSL-4 laboratory in 2015 in W***n.

It would also seem that research on bats was taking place at this lab. See abstract titled Bat origin of human c****av***ses. Do take some time on the list provided, china has been aware of the c****av***s, C****-**, for years.

So, did China make the c****av***s....probably as they tried to understand how the bat v***s crossed over to human. Did they intentionally release it on their own people, probably not.

Okay, so the alternative is bats in November 2019, which were not sold as food in the wet market, had a SARS-like v***s somehow got into the market and sneezed on a dead chicken and that a person with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), without cooking the chicken, ate it and got sick. And that gave birth to the c****av***s that the lab has been studying for years.

Do note, the Horseshoe Bat lives throughout China.....Horseshoe bats are carriers of a SARS-like v***s....yet, the outbreak of this v***s centered in the location of a biohazard lab....and that is just "interesting?" China reported a single case of MERS, yet the lab has samples. Just "interesting?" Further, the c****av***s is an RNA v***s....interesting as the "lab' produced a paper in 2017 regarding Scientists report on the first synthesis of a baculov***s aka Artificially creating RNA v***s. Just "interesting?"

The emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome c****av***s (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)-CoV underscores the threat of cross-species t***smission events leading to outbreaks in humans.


Recently, Prof. Zhengli Shi and Xingyi Ge from WIV, in cooperation with researchers from University of North Carolina, Harvard Medical School, Bellinzona Institute of Microbiology and etc, examine the disease potential of a SARS-like v***s, SHC014-CoV, which is currently circulating in Chinese horseshoe bat populations. Using the SARS-CoV reverse genetics system, the scientists generated and characterized a chimeric v***s expressing the spike of bat c****av***s SHC014 in a mouse-adapted SARS-CoV backbone. The results indicate that group 2b v***ses encoding the SHC014 spike in a wild-type backbone can efficiently use multiple orthologs of the SARS receptor human angiotensin converting enzyme II (ACE2), replicate efficiently in primary human airway cells and achieve in vitro titers equivalent to epidemic strains of SARS-CoV. Evaluation of available SARS-based immune-therapeutic and prophylactic modalities revealed poor efficacy; both monoclonal antibody and v*****e approaches failed to neutralize and protect from infection with CoVs using the novel spike protein.

On the basis of these findings, they synthetically re-derived an infectious full-length SHC014 recombinant v***s and demonstrate robust v***l replication both in vitro and in vivo. The work suggests a potential risk of SARS-CoV re-emergence from v***ses currently circulating in bat populations.
