The way he is agonizing over this sends a signal that he doesn't even want to wait for May.
The states that are starting to show signs that new case numbers are stabilizing haven't even had a chance to identify and trace down contacts and quarantine them.
And what are experts saying, and I'm talking about infectious disease experts? They are saying that opening things up, lifting stay at home orders can take the country right back to numbers that were on the do nothing side of estimates. Jumping the gun on this makes the hard work already done worth next to nothing.
Trump could be doing a massive push on every military, state, private, and federal lab that can do tests to be doing them. Then we can open up as we have substantially more testing.

I’d say he would be a whole lot less likely, to be re-elected, if he is perceived to have caused the deaths of more Americans bc of his decisions.....NOT bc of what he might want the economy to do.

Wow "ID, trace down the contacts & quarantine them"? China did a lot of that & seems they were never heard from again, that's probably why NK has so few if any cases also! We're losing more freedoms daily, but didn't think it was that bad yet!
Which would you suggest: posting a Red Quarantine notice on their door or marking their foreheads?

The economy didn't stop on trumps orders, nor will it wait for word from him to restart. The economy began shutting down in Jan., trump kept trying to prop it up with words and the fed, desperately trying to save the "biggest economic boom in the whole history of the world!" and failed - now - he's trying to pretend that HE stopped the economy, therefor, HE can order it restarted.
