I am certain the more astute Trump supporters realize that Mr. Trump has a tendency to stretch the boundaries of believability, but they perceive this to be the norm for most politicians. It is the responsibility of the press to inform the public of these t***sgressions, which is where I believe the main discrepancies tend to be.

Mr. Trump has defended his veracity by using the concept of f**e news or lugenpresse*. By convincing his supporters that it is the press rather than his statements that are false, he has successfully rendered t***h as legitimately questionable.

Regardless of the veracity of a statement, it is plausible to find a source that will report the statement or event in a manner to support wh**ever ideology is convenient for the party or individual involved. It is regrettable that we have accepted the manipulation of the t***h as a casualty of modern political reporting, but the real casualty is the distrust and polarization of the press.

The Fourth Estate or news media has to have the confidence of the citizens they serve in order to secure the benefits of a Democracy. The destruction of the press is perhaps the first step in the process of dismantling a Democratic system. Once the t***h becomes a debatable issue, all other aspects of a Democracy become suspect.

The dismantling of the press in the U.S. has been a concerted effort that began in the early 1980′s. The nullifying of the Fairness Doctrine began the process. It allowed different political philosophies to develop media centers that were built on partisan politics. It has now become a cancer that is slowly destroying the unbiased press we so desperately need. Of all the institutions that exist today, the media is the one that must refrain from becoming a pawn for any singular political ideology.

*Lying press (German: Lügenpresse, lit. 'press of lies') was/is a pejorative political term used largely by German political movements for the printed press and the mass media at large, as a propaganda tactic to discredit the free press.

if you are talking about the innuendoes thrown out by President Trump , concerning the liberal "news media" . I would have to agree with President Trump . for over 3 years they have been the mouth piece for the anti Trump, bimbocrats . when a group of "news people " calling themselves "reporters " say the same things that the dems. are saying for the last 3 years and we find that the narrative of their comments have been proven FALSE and LIES . what do you think that people should think of them ?

Only a slightly interesting treatise. However, POTUS Trump didn’t/hasn’t “caused” the MSM to become a pack of liars.....they’ve been doing that for a very long time.....driven by a a very l*****t agenda. Ex: the Russia h**x.

We didn't hire him to be a goody two shoes nor especially to meet with your approval.

We hired him to kick Hillary's butt and he came through with flying colors.

You have a clown car full of democrat candidates at present.

Would you care to point out which one is the saintly bastion of t***h that has never spoken a lie ?

You poor Goobers are so distraught over your string of failures that you're regurgitating the same old horse hockey over and over.

The poor horse is dead goober.

Give it a break will ya ?

The current NYT activities related to "reporting" what is in the Bolton manuscript is a shining example. My comment from another thread: I said this from the beginning; his "manuscript" won't say what the NYT says it does. Just like Vindman's account of the phone call was false. And if it is being leaked, it's coming from Vindman in the WH. And if the NYT has not seen the manuscript, then it follows that they are getting the "Vindman" version, where a favor is a demand!!

The press has to drop any sort of preferred narrative, like over throwing a sitting American President, for example.

It's ok though neighbor.

We love you anyway cause we know you're a kind hearted good ol boy.

Sad but true. What passes for journalism today more closely resembles the literary arts, where the writer determines the ending of the story before beginning to write. Unfortunately, the media has fallen into the same patterns as our political process and policing, reaching conclusions BEFORE hearings/investigations begin.

A good commentary on the Trump Presidency. Lügenpresse* is a hallmark of the Current administration.

The very first sentence of the article, P-R: "I am certain the more astute Trump supporters realize that Mr. Trump has a tendency to stretch the boundaries of believability, but they perceive this to be the norm for most politicians."

Unquestionably, many feel Mr. Obama fit into that "norm" for politicians.

I've noticed that some of the responses follow the same pattern; Trump lied - "no he didn't!........................what did he say?"
