why take the v**e away from the people and give the e******n to a group of politicians?

The House of Representatives was to represent the citizens with proportional representation. The Senate was to represent the states with all states represented equally, hence, each state has 2 Senators. What the 17th amendment did was take the choice of Senators from the state and give it to the national parties. The President is chosen by the states through the e*******l college. By putting all of our elected officials to a pure v**e of the people leads to mob rule. Our founders understood this, that is why they created the division of powers and the method of choosing our representatives. Under a pure democracy minorities could be ens***ed, women lose the right to v**e and be considered as chattel again, no free speech, no right to free assembly, no freedom of religion, no freedom of the press, etc. If you think it can't happen, it only takes 51% of the v**es to make it so. It can also lead to instability in the government because policies can radically change in a short period. Change won't necessarily be good. Remember Hitler and the N**is were freely elected and allowed to assume full power and look where that led the world.

Well said. That was the point I was trying to make but my mind was tired.

You can also start by getting rid of or outlawing the Tri Lateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Then you can revoke everyone’s dual citizenship in Congress (Israeli’s insert here)

Then you can demand Trump remove us from the United Nations and get them off our land

Then you can make sure there are no foreign interest lobbyists, contributions or special interests groups, associations etc... making policies which encroach or violate our Constitution

You might as well make sure anyone elected to office takes a rigorous test on the Constitution and all those things you mention above.

Please pivot and change your stance now, it’s time for you to help with PLans B and C

Good day Richard...

I think you've hit on something very important! We need a major paradigm shift in our thinking both on the right and the left. We can start by reintroducing the study of the Constitution in the school, and not just a cursory overview, but an entire semester, at minimum, delving deep into the issues the founders confronted.

I've met too many college students who have never studied the constitution, never had a real class in American History, and have never actually read the Constitution or our founding documents. And do you know what? Many of them become teachers. You can't teach what you don't understand. (I see the same problem in mathematics with elementary school teachers.)

We can also bring back the study of western civilization and philosophy without always making excuses. The great thing about America is that she can admit and face up to the mistakes made. Churchill said (and I paraphrase) "You can always count on America to do the right thing after she has tried everything else." I think we have tried everything else thanks to the progressive and the left.

Noted and Bullseye !

So what does Trumpy do instead ? He inserts Betsy Amway DeVos another g*******t T*****r Rat to circumvent curriculum into their matrix.

Another advisor who needs to go

Another advisor which shines light on the fact Trump is c*********d and hiring all the usual suspects from past and new ones with repackaging ideas.

I have to agree with you on this point. I would be happy to see the Dept of Education totally disappear from the Federal government. They don't teach one student. They have created a bureaucratic maze that has conflicting rules and regulations. Schools spend far too much to comply. To get money from the government, school districts and states have to hire more staff to comply with regulations. Too many strings and red tape attached to all this. That calls for an ever-expanding bureaucracy of make-work employees who suck up much of the money allocated for these programs. Add in the pension these employees will eventually receive and the programs are often no longer self-sustaining. When I was a child in the LAUSD, the administration cost for the district was about 10% of their budget. Now it is about 20% of the budget and that doesn't include the money going to special education and foreign language ESL programs that siphon off more money from the average classroom. Immigrant parents have figured out how to game the system by putting their children into Special Education programs in California. Often their problem is that they don't speak English nor is English spoken in the home. The parents are not involved in their children's school nor schoolwork.

However, doesn't she at least advocate for vouchers? Of course, if so, she doesn't advocate very hard for them. I never see her on any talk shows or news programs to promote the issue.

Yeah well vouchers but that’s just another invented layer of the same problems we’re trying to get rid of.

Trump needs to do something Quick to remove common Core, sharia, Koran crap, everywhere and insert the Immediate and complete education of our founding principles.

But he hasn’t...

There are thousands of schools that are substandard and failing our youth. So where do we start besides closing them down? Replace that with Charter schools? Parochial schools? I would also like to see teacher certification changed, teacher unions abolished, and Schools of Education (known as the least academic demanding of all graduate school) taken out of the control of state universities.

The House of Representatives represents the people. A complete turnover every two years. The Senate is a more deliberative body and is not supposed to succumb to the knee jerk reactions of factionalism. Only 1/3 of the Senate is elected every two years. There is more continuity within the Senate because 2/3 of the Senators do not have to run for re-e******n every two years. But the Senate was supposed to represent the States to balance the factions; not to be popularly elected. Passage of the 17th Amendment was a Progressive idea to increase direct democracy. Direct Democracy doesn't work on a large scale. Eventually. people will v**e themselves benefits with no way to pay for them. As a wise person once said, "Democracy is two wolves and a sheep arguing about what to have for dinner." What happens once the wolves eat the sheep? This is where we are headed with the socialist Democratic candidates running for President. We have been moving in this direction ever since the passage of the 17th Amendment.

Just as we have three branches for the separation of powers The legislature had to have its separation of powers because it is possibly the strongest branch, but also most susceptible to the whims of the undisciplined. If both houses are elected by popular v**e, why have an e*******l college? The EC was to prevent tyranny by a majority over the minority. To allow states to have equal representation regardless of their size. We have sublimated those safeguards that the founders established by electing Senators through a popular v**e. They are no longer accountable to the States. The states have given more and more power to the Federal Government which in turn has grown so big that bureaucracies within have become self-regulating entities answerable to no one; not the Legislature, the President, nor the Courts. They have been given free rein by the legislative acts that created them, so as to administer, create their own rules and adjudicate their own disputes. SCOTUS Justice Kavanaugh is an expert in administrative law. This is one of the reasons he was selected and the progressives fought so strongly against his confirmation. The bureaucrats don't want to give up their power. Especially the holdovers from the Obama administration. Trump stands in their way and they will do anything to bring him down. "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" - Lord Acton

This, to me, is not a completely satisfactory answer. It is late, and I am tired, therefore, I can't direct you to any links. But there have been several discussions on OPP about the prudence of the E*******l College. Maybe tomorrow or Monday after the Super Bowl is over I will have more time to adequately answer.

That is what is happening now. It is not ”the people” but the representatives.

I looked into getting a teaching certificate (I already have a BSBA). The rules state that I need to go back to school basically starting over to get the teaching degree. There are a lot of people like me that could become teachers as a secondary career later in life, but it seems that the powers to be would rather have youngsters with no life experiences.
