fom, the "rich" pay most of the taxes. the top 10% pay around 85% of the taxes. The next 40% pay around 15%. What is a "fair share?" Almost 50% of the people in this country pay none. What is fair about that? They enjoy all the rights and privileges, but someone else has to pony up for it. The Federal Government has collected more money from taxes the past 3 years than ever before, and the deficit still keeps going up. You could confiscate every dime the "rich" made last year, and it would run the government for about 3 weeks. There isn't enough money in the country to support the way these bastards spend it.

You need to leave Unemployment benefits off your list. I could do a full explanation; however, just take my word.

As to Social Security, had the fund not been raided, it would not be an issue. The Congress, both sides, simply could not abide having the money sitting there.

You fail to take into account the "top wage earners" already pay approximately 85% of ALL tax revenue. How much more is enough for you?

The title of this topic should be "How petty can the OPP Democrats get?" and you sure answered the question.

I have thought a national sales tax would get every citizen rich or poor involved. There is a form of property tax that taxes landowners on the value of their land. Structures are not included but land has different values depending on location. The land owner may pass this burden onto the tenant however they have the responsibility of paying the tax. There are different methods of taxation that could be considered more fair. I am one who Pays taxes and never sees a refund. Yes the refund system seems like a give away. one guy who worked for me got a refund each year of over $7000 and that was claiming all dependands so not a lot was taken from him. He is no longer in my employ as haveing kids was more profitable to him than working. People like him need to be working not waiting for child credits each year.

If you are a multimillionare you will pay taxes on your earnings like every one else. Lower wage earners still have taxes withheld that they do not recieve a refund on until a year is up. The government uses this money. Legislation should be passed to make Social Security a hands off item. When Roosevelt signed Social Security into law Republican lawmakers and party members fought it villified it and called it the doom of America. Funny how it has worked out. If a person is Unemployed through no fault of their own----such as the Coal Miner they should be entitled to unemployment benifits. If a person is lying about their work search and are caught no more benefits.

We agree on this. I am absolutely in favor of the Fair Tax. That still leaves the problem of the spendthrifts in DC. No matter how much they have, they will always spend more.

Pay very close attention. Unemployment benefits are not a Federal entitlement. I was so hoping I could avoid having to do chapter and verse on this subject. Every state and the four Commonwealths bill an employer quarterly for payment into the unemployment fund for their business. They do not pay those monies to the Dept. Of Labor. The federal government only becomes involved dollar wise when Federal Extended Unemployment is approved. An employer's tax increases when an unemployment claim is paid. Do I really need to get into finite details?

They earn too much money and have far too good of benifits considering they do nothing most of the time.

I have paid a great deal into unemployment benifits to workers who drew out every extension they could until it was gone before they sucked it up and went back to a job. I use an employment service now. Let them pay all the extensions.

You do know unemployment is considered income. An individual who receives unemployment benefits receives a 1099 at the end of the year. Their benefits are reported to the IRS and their state tax office.
