Interesting discussion. But what should be done about children who come to school hungry?

Indeed...

What should be done....

Perhaps they should be removed from the care of those ho are unable to provide for them...

Let them become true wards of the state...

I can hardly speak for the rest of my right wing brethren, but I would certainly be willing to contribute to the care of such unfortunates...

The logic of allowing individuals to raise children they cannot feed escapes me...

Also... American Vet... I truly enjoy your posts... You have an excellent mind and are very civil... An excellent member of our community

I would suggest that every denomination of faith that exists in those hungry kiddo's community should have already remedied that problem.

Hungry children should be taught to fish.

Amen...

This is what I've truly missed... Your ability to phrase things in a manner that cuts to the quick...

K**l me, . . .NOW!!!

Hi Sing....

Been a while...

I get it...

I contribute to a charity that provides school supplies and lunches to children in underdeveloped areas of China...

Most of them are orphans or have lost one parent... Hard times for the families...

China is a c*******t Nation.. That requires parents to feed their own children...

Sing-y,

How in the world of obscurity have you been ?

Shine on you crazy diamond.

Two stories.

1.
My father was injured and disabled after a work accident when I was in middle school. My mother sent lunch with me every day, so I did not have to bring lunch money for the cafeteria.

On Fridays, there was a regular Pep Rally and the cafeteria supplied juice and cookies. I would politely decline them as I knew I had not paid the cafeteria, I was prone to acne, tooth decay and weight gain from too much sugar and they put nasty raisins in the cookies, anyway. This bothered the Cafeteria Lady. She talked to the principal and my teacher and it was decided that if I wanted cookies and juice, I could "pay" for them by washing the cafeteria tables with a wet sponge that day.

I thanked them. Cleaned the tables for them the rest of the year. Somehow, the other kids were ENVIOUS of my "JOB."

Never did take the snack though....

Bigotry against raisin?

2. Decided not to tell this one after all.

Amazing! Dated TODAY!

"BEIJING - A recent government initiative to prevent rural children from starving has raised the hopes of grassroots philanthropists. This came after the State Council, China's Cabinet, announced that the central government will offer nutrition subsidies to 26 million poor students in rural areas."

A drop in the bucket... Their parents are migrant workers in cities and the children are referred to as "left behind"... Charities have been providing for decades....

Saw this the other day... I'm scepticsl.... Although Xi Jinping has put far more emphasis on rural poverty than other leaders...

We'll see..

Thanks Canuck.

It's really quite a simple fix, yet as soon as we involve government, we get overwhelmed with bureaucratic complications.

We call them "latch key kids."

If they are already C*******ts, what is there for conservatives to complain about?

Wee Willy that is sad. There are a lot of low income families who need financial help, and you would want these kids going hungry. You are twisted, You need help. you are what's wrong with America

My mother qualified for government assistance... Refused it...

She spent about $300 dollars a month on cigarettes... Thought it would be wrong to take the money... Worked two jobs instead...

We didn't go hungry... Although we often ate kraft dinner or Ichiban noodles...

She was never proud of her habit...

But was too proud to take what wasn't earned...

Nothing... I don't complain over here...

I work and pay taxes and contribute to charities worth my attention...

My point is that there are children in need and there are children who's families simply fail to care for them...

Encouraging those families is counterproductive...

Way back when (in the 70's? maybe) someone suggested that an unwed mother get X amount of dollars for child support (from the government).

And that was it. If she had more children, the X stayed the same.

If she late got a job, the amount she received plus her salary would be X. And, of course, when her salary surpassed X, the government amount would stop. The idea would be to provide a basic level of support, but at least some encouragement to do better.

That sounds like a good idea.

What is sad is that people actually believe there are starving children in the US....

My friends from Somalia and Yemen and Afghanistan could do a better job of explaining what the term "starving" truly rdfers to...
