At least 200,000 people perished when the bombs were dropped. We learned our lesson. Drop no bombs and nobody is k**led and everybody is saved. Congress gets behind k*****gs no matter who is doing it. That's one of the problems. If they were to discuss and decide on foreign policy in advance, we would have a better idea about how to proceed. The decision should not be left to the President. Especially this one.
I believe you missed the point. The deaths of 200,000 saved millions of lives of Americans, Russians, and Japanese.
Over 1,000 Japanese committed suicide at Marpi Point in Saipan. Men, women, and children leapt off of 200 foot cliffs rather than surrender to Americans. Some were convinced by propaganda that the GI's would eat their children and rape their wives. Here is a link to that one episode;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D90tsixeJ6gJapan, at that time, was a fanatical society. It was dishonorable to surrender...better to die fighting or commit Harakari than to surrender.
They would have chosen to fight on until almost the last man, costing the lives of perhaps millions. And though the 2 A bombs were the most horrible part of a long war, they also ended the war.
Here is a part of Hirohito's surrender speech to his people;
But now the war has lasted for nearly four years. Despite the best that has been done by everyone--the gallant fighting of our military and naval forces, the diligence and assiduity of out servants of the State and the dev**ed service of our 100,000,000 people--the war situation has developed not necessarily to Japan's advantage, while the general trends of the world have all turned against her interest.
Moreover, the enemy has begun to employ a new and most cruel bomb, the power of which to do damage is, indeed, incalculable, taking the toll of many innocent lives. Should we continue to fight, it would not only result in an ultimate collapse and obliteration of the Japanese nation, but also it would lead to the total extinction of human civilization.
Such being the case, how are we to save the millions of our subjects, nor to atone ourselves before the hallowed spirits of our imperial ancestors? This is the reason why we have ordered the acceptance of the provisions of the joint declaration of the powers.
We cannot but express the deepest sense of regret to our allied nations of East Asia, who have consistently cooperated with the Empire toward the emancipation of East Asia.
It was not a case of don't drop bombs and nobody dies.
I know you don't believe this, but had Trump consulted with Pelosi and Schiff, they would have allowed him to do it, but would have warned Iran to make him look like a bad president. It's what they are doing right now! They are going to split the articles of impeachment so that if Trump is found innocent in the first trial, there will be a second trial.
Their plan is to get rid of Trump in any way they can, legal or illegal, it's justified to them. Yet you expect Trump to consult with them on such a delicate operation?
to sum it up...had we not bombed, many MORE lives would have been lost. Trump did not discuss with Pelosi or Schiff or Shumer because they are not trustworthy. Really!! You say? Do you remember when Pelosi told i*****l a***ns how to get into our country illegally? I do. They are not trustworthy.
