It depends if you are Amazon, Exon, Koch industries or own a sports franchise quite a bit. If you are a poor hungry or sick child a tiny amount. And if you are a Cheeto faced S**tgibbon who wants to play golf on my dime a bit more. All kidding aside taxes are the reasonable bill patriots willingly pay to live in a free just nation.

I agree wholeheartedly with that last statement

You work hard at what? Everytime I scroll through this forum, you're on most threads, at all hours of the day spewing junk.

I work hard, and don't have time to insult Americans the way you do.

How do YOU define "working hard"?

Does that mean the more tax you pay the more patriotic you are? If paying taxes is patriotic, then sucking up taxes, by being on welfare, must be unpatriotic.

But seriously, I understand that taxes are required to fund necessary government functions. But when the govt takes money at gunpoint from those who work to give to those who won't that is not 'just'. V**e buying is not a necessary or valid function of government.

It's a hypothetical question.

perhaps you should learn to read, but more importantly comprehend. I pay a lot in tax, I work hard and have done pretty well. I have no qualms about tax dollars being spent on feeding the 21% of children living in poverty, taking care of the impoverished elderly, funding education or health care. What I resent is corporate welfare, companies extorting states and cities to avoid paying their share, or moving capitol off shore. This can and should be ended immediately.

I agree about corporate welfare, it should be abolished. Having said that there are at least some benefits to it, jobs being one. With social welfare, society only gets more dependency and increased crime.

I’ll agree with that. Corporate welfare is all about cronyism. Govt. likes people dependent and Corporations like politicians beholden to them. Exactly why I’m for some sort of fair/flat tax.

My paycheck? You can have all of it if $25.00 is good enough. I count on the money under the table and SS.

Under the table...good for you! When the politicians squander taxpayers' hard-earned money on policies that are harmful to the nation, avoiding taxes is the most patriotic option available.

Be careful what you wish for, unless you're in the top ten percent. The top one percent of earners in 2016 (latest data I could find in a quick search) paid an average rate of 26.9%. The next 4 paid a rate of 19.2% and the next 5 paid a rate of 14.0%. That covers the top ten percent of earners. The bottom 90 percent of earners paid a rate of 10.7% or less. The top ten percent of earners paid just under 70% of all income tax.

That means that under a flat tax, everybody below the top ten percent would pay more.

I'd prefer that withholding taxes be eliminated. When taxes are taken out before the earners even see them with each paycheck, most people don't realize how excessive taxes really are. Insead, if they get a refund they're happy. If withholding was eliminated and earners had to write a check for the full-year taxes to the IRS every April 15, they'd be shocked and would demand less government spending.

And they talk about giving social security away (at least what’s left) butI hear no talk of cutting out the government pensions. Let’s give AOC’s salary to the i******s. And no retirement.

I'm still waiting for the so called Hollyweird elites to give up their mega mansions, lamborghini's, designer clothes, spas, nail salons, massage therapists, and toy boys. L*****ts like JLo, Babs streisand, Beyonce and Cher could go 1st and set a good example of their charity to the poor and downtrodden.

Yes it is. We would like to live off of your blood and sweat instead of the other way around. First question. Do Democrats ever sweat ? Second Question. Is your blood any good ?

Even in your r****t fantasy about those on assistance direct assistance creates jobs. Let’s say an able bodied man on welfare just squanders it on booze and dice games. He still walks down to the corner bodega and purchases his 40 ounce bottle of malt liquor and a blunt. The liquor store owner uses that money to pay a kid to sweep the floor, the mortgage on his store or to buy groceries. The guy who wins the craps game can also buy a 40 or get a sandwich or pizza at the diner and that same money is quickly circulating in the community. Corporate welfare has few such benefits as the money is used for stock buy backs or even off-shoring and a much smaller percentage stays in the community. This all ignores the t***h, most welfare go’s to working poor white families, and in reality is a subsidy to employers who pay sub standard wages.
