Couple problems with your analogy. One, if we don’t agree with you we aren’t patriots. As if you of all people can define patriotism. Two, who gets to define reasonable?

We just adore your socialist brand of charity. Let the government take our income instead of individuals, of their own free will and love of neighbor, giving personal help. Since the advent of serious government socialist agenda interference, individual personal giving has decreased. To atheist like yourself you recognize the need but want the government to provide. perhaps you should learn to read, but more importantly comprehend. I pay a lot in tax, I work hard and have done pretty well. I have no qualms about tax dollars being spent on feeding the 21% of children living in poverty, taking care of the impoverished elderly, funding education or health care. What I resent is corporate welfare, companies extorting states and cities to avoid paying their share, or moving capitol off shore. This can and should be ended immediately.

And they talk about giving social security away (at least what’s left) butI hear no talk of cutting out the government pensions. Let’s give AOC’s salary to the i******s. And no retirement.

The reason socialism NEVER works is two simple things.
1. The government is entirely incapable of actually producing anything.
2. The money is distributed like a charity. Anyone remember United Way? Millions donated through payroll deduction. Only to have it all blow up because LESS THAN 5 CENTS ON THE DOLLAR WENT TO RECIPIENTS. Only to be even FURTHER reduced by the "administrators" of the recipients. That is a PERFECT example of how government agencies handle money.
