I was alive when FDR was president. Does that qualify me to make observations, comparisons and comments on the Trump impeachment? First, as you noted, Nixon resigned so he was not convicted of any crime. If he had not resigned I expect he would have been impeached. Clinton was charged with actual crimes, rationalized and diminished in scope by Democrats as simply lying about sex. If it had not been for five RINO type Republicans v****g "No" Clinton would have been removed from office. All 45 Senate Democrats stood in lockstep against impeaching Clinton. President Trump was not charged with any crime by the Progressive House of Representatives. He is guilty of hurting the feelings of Progressives and this, in their little minds, is the most grievous of all undocumented, illegal and alien crimes not found in the Constitution of The United States.

[quote=ACP45]It appears from what I am reading, that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will move to dismiss the articles immediately following opening arguments.

"...Article I, Section 3 actually states, “The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments.”

“We don’t create impeachments over here … we judge them,” he declared.

It was the House’s role to investigate, and to build a case. “If they fail, they fail! It’s not the Senate’s job to leap into the breach to search desperately for ways to get to guilty. That would hardly be impartial justice.”

The Senate would Impeachment was never about removing Trump from office. Even now, Pelosi is saying she might withhold sending her articles to Senate—a move that would prevent them from even holding a trial (she hopes). Why would she go to such great lengths to impeach Trump, but try to stop the Senate from removing him from office?

This is what we’ve been saying all along. Impeachment was always going to fail. Democrats were hoping their f**e news allies would stir up enough negative press, that Trump’s 2020 chances would be doomed.

After all, they were hoping that their own candidate would talk endlessly about impeachment leading up to November. Perhaps that would sour v**ers on Trump.

The problem? Donald Trump did not commit impeachable offenses. Polls prove that Americans (even Democrat v**ers) are against impeachment. And Trump has continued to win again and again for the American people.

He has so much support, in fact, that people are rushing to back him. On the same night Democrats v**ed to impeach, Trump held a massive rally in Battle Creek, MI. Supporters braved 17-degree temperatures, just to hear him.

I think that is how this whole unfortunate process is going to end. So maybe Greg G was right and this was all a prank, one that we'll never forget!

It deserves dismissal. The impeachment is a joke, a farce, an insult to the Senate and most especially to the constitution.

It is a waste of time, and must not move forward. Pelosi is hoarding the Articles right now, thinking for a strategy to hide their criminal embarrassment.

The Senate would not, he said, participate in “new fact-finding” that House Democrats were “too impatient” to pursue."

I suspect that is how this whole unfortunate process is going to end. Agree or Disagree?

Pelosi right now is keeping the Articles of Impeachment. Perhaps thinking of a strategy how to defeat McConnell. There is no way, the impeachment will pass thru the Senate.

However, I think I have an idea. To end this waiting, the Senate must require a deadline for Pelosi to submit the results of this impeachment to the Senate within the next 2 days. Failure to do this, the Senate will refuse to allow the Articles to go thru Senate. Senate must dismiss and return this illegal document to Pelosi and Adam Schitt.

I believe I heard something today stating that the Pelosi refusal to forward the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate violates the 6th Amendment to the Constitution, the right to face your accusers.

I still wish that SCOTUS would come forward and publish an open letter to the House, admonishing them for these ridiculous shenanigans and suggesting they stop acting like children and put an end to it.

I've also wondered if it is within their authority to admonish or censure another equal branch of government. What we've witnessed for three years would sure seem to qualify. There has to be a way to prosecute this attempted c**p! If not, we're doomed for eventual failure.

But even if they can't officially censure them ... and I have no clue about that ... couldn't they at the very least write an open letter and publish it? I'm certain something like this is unprecedented, but everything about this circus is unprecedented.

The rights of a speedy trail of the accused? I am not sure if this is also applicable to the impeachment clause. I think the president could not invoke the sixth Amendment Right. The president does not have a criminal trial.

As Pennylynn has pointed out in an earlier post, the House has not yet complied with the requirements for impeachment.

"Harvard Law Professor Noah Feldman says that President Trump isn't technically impeached until the House actually t***smits the articles to the Senate.....

If the House does not communicate its impeachment to the Senate, it hasn’t actually impeached the president. If the articles are not t***smitted, Trump could legitimately say that he wasn’t truly impeached at all.

That’s because “impeachment” under the Constitution means the House sending its approved articles of to the Senate, with House managers standing up in the Senate and saying the president is impeached.

As for the headlines we saw after the House v**e saying, “TRUMP IMPEACHED,” those are a media shorthand, not a technically correct legal statement. So far, the House has v**ed to impeach (future tense) Trump. He isn’t impeached (past tense) until the articles go to the Senate and the House members deliver the message. -Noah Feldman"

Quite an interesting state of affairs!!!!!
