Some call it an unsinkable aircraft carrier.

Ridiculous....

A few bombs and the air strips are useless...

Would be useful for defensive purposes...

But wouldn't last long...

Considering what China's navy is up to all over the western Pacific, I don't see this as ridiculous at all. An island base that close to China gives the US and others (Japan) many options for responses to Chinese aggression. It is quite obvious that the Chinese have been rattling their sabres for quite some time. Seems like they are spoiling for a fight. Damned C*******ts are greedy bastards.

Why not just use Japan?

Much more difficult to attack and far greater resources...

No offense... It's funny to hear an American complaining that the Chinese are "saber rattling"...

I figured it would touch a nerve. My job in the AF was repairing bombed-out runways in a chem suit in FL. not fun. Missile launchers can also be installed. It's just another irritant for China to worry about and if the missiles are nuke tipped. Japan doesn't have nukes and we can't put nukes in Japan. 24 hours after China signs the trade deal. Smells like an 'art of the deal' thing to me.

Are you implying that we are rattling our sabres? That's hilarious.

I reckon you are inclined to defend the country you've chosen to live in, but get real, dude.

The following is Patricia Kim’s prepared statement delivered to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence of the U.S. House of Representatives during its hearing on "China's Worldwide Military Expansion" on May 17, 2018.

China’s military build-up just starting - a lot more to come

As tensions rise over Taiwan, Beijing is building a naval and missile force as powerful as any in the world.

.

What do you suppose is the range in miles of these big Chinese bullets?

Yeah, China has Massive Ordnance Air Burst ( MOAB ) weapons as well. It could serve China as a test bed for biological or chemical agents I suppose.

This reminds me of Churchill's ice/sawdust aircraft carriers.

We already have bases in South Korea, mainland Japan and Okinawa, all similar distance from mainland China. The small island will likely serve as an observation post to counter Chinas mid range missiles, clay pidgins for our patriot batteries.

Well, in the case of China, it is exactly that; generating "press" that can be used to bolster support for Chinese leadership. But for the media, what good would any of it be??

Yeah, they probably do. Wonder how much Obama and Hillary charged them for the technology?

Bill Clinton gave China missile technology. Something he never should have done.

Sensationalism! Even on the weather channel. LOL! What used to be simple weather events are now devastating earth shakers caused by c*****e c****e. And witness Anderson Cooper, standing waist deep in a ditch full of water reporting on the e*****e w*****r hitting all around him, devastating floods everywhere, while in the back ground a guy and his kids are walking by, oblivious to the weather, wondering why Anderson Cooper in standing in s ditch full of water when there is un-flooded ground all around!
