I've been hearing that statement a lot lately, you know, Democrats are trying to undo the people's 2016 choice, trying to undermine the people's chosen Government etc., but is any of that true? For those who chose the ruling administration, the answer is an emphatic yes, for those that did not, the answer is an emphatic no.

Let's not count those Americans who made NO choice in 2016 for a moment, and only discuss those who did choose. Based solely on the v**e count, not the E*******l College count, slightly more than half did NOT choose this administration. Be that as it may, since our system for electing a President is not based on the popular v**e, those Americans that did not v**e for the "winner" are expected to respect the winning choice and pull together for the good of the country and assumes that they are now onboard with the winning agenda.

I think everyone can agree with that statement - but here is where it falls apart; The person who is selected by the E*******l College becomes the President of the United States...........................not President of the Republican/Democratic States, not President of the Republican/Democratic party. To assume that the people's wishes, as represented by the elected members of the "other" party, are irrelevant and may be dismissed, immediately draws battle lines. To keep using the premise that ALL the people are now onboard with the winning agenda, is just plain stupid, completely divorced from reality.

For myself, I'm tired of hearing politicians and talking heads making statements " the people said, the people chose " and similar stuff, because it isn't remotely true. A President or ruling party, will NEVER garner the support of all Americans, by dismissing more than half of them as irrelevant. The REAL numbers of American v**ers, show that only 1/5 actually v**ed for the current administration, and no efforts whatsoever has been made to win over the other 4/5. In fact, the only efforts seen, have been to impose the wishes of those 1/5 on the whole country.

When making a statement for all the people, make sure that all the people have signed on.
I've been hearing that statement a lot lately, you... (show quote)

Show some presence of mind... why do you not mind at all the minority over ruling the majority and forcing unpopular policy that serves the few while repressing the many who v**ed against the minority, but lost due to an archaic frontier policy?

What you're advocating is a pure Democracy where the majority always wins. A lynch mob is a pure Democracy. That's almost what you birds have in the impeachment hearings but not quite, not yet anyhow. No conservative witnesses were allowed if you recall.

We are a fraternity of states electing a president to represent all Americans. Congress, represents the people of individual states and are elected by majority v**e. Now if that system is not to your liking, too archaic, then you' really are dumber than a third grader. I may have to retract that last statement not knowing exactly what they're teaching in civics classes since the c*******t takeover of our schools. The Progressives school system is failing our children and evidently, considering progressive seeking the abolition of the EC, many adults too. Then there's Schumer's threat to expand the number of associate justices on the Supreme Court and a half dozen other agenda items to "fundamentally" change America. Where did you go so terribly wrong and forfeited your common sense?

EXCELLENT premise. It's why so many objected to Obama.

You've really missed the point. But getting to the Obama remark.

When all is said and done:

1. Barack Obama has won an overwhelming majority in the E*******l College, a daunting majority of the popular v**e and a majority of the nation’s states—including most of the country’s largest states and states in every major region of the republic: New England, the mid-Atlantic, the Great Lakes, the South, the Southwest, the Mountain West and the West.

2. Barack Obama has won more popular v**es than any Democratic candidate for president in history—except Barack Obama in 2008.

3. Barack Obama is the first Democratic president to win more than 50 percent of the popular v**e in a re-e******n run since Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1944.

4. Barack Obama is the only Democratic candidate for president since FDR to twice win more than 50 percent of the national v**e.

5. Barack Obama has, in both of his p**********l runs, won a higher percentage of the national v**e than any Democratic nominee since Lyndon Johnson in his 1964 landslide victory.

Add it all up and Obama has a mandate from this year’s p**********l e******n that is significantly greater than those afforded John Kennedy in 1960, Richard Nixon in 1968, Jimmy Carter in 1976 or George W. Bush in 2000 or 2004.

the numbers and oh yeah the source...https://www.thenation.com/article/obamas-3-million-v**e-e*******l-college-landslide-majority-states-mandate/

LOL,,, If the majority is a lynch mob.. what the Heck is it when the minority finds itself in control and forces what most people are opposed to upon all of the nation???

Most people are for a clean healthy environment and the rules to make industry comply.

Most people are for some effort to curtail the mass shooting and deaths of 1000s each year by unregulated guns in the United states..

Most people are for maintaining the infrastructure of the nation of the future of the nation.

Most people are for education that is accessible to all Americans not only the wealthy privileged few..

Most people are for a regulated immigration system, to be upgraded from the current rules laid down in the 80s..

Most people are for health care that is available and affordable to all. Not the removal of the ACA without any replacement.

Most people are for a fair and effective tax structure that will pay for the needs of government without having the middle/lower class pay for gifts only to the ultra rich..

I would go on, but what the hay.... it is mid afternoon and darkness falls, so I must try doing a little bit out and about..

take care and have a nice evening..

I want to tell you something dumb a$$, you don't get to speak for "most people" and neither does the Progressive minoruty. Furthermore, the only remedies Progressives suggest are spend more, restrict more, tax more, more government, and less individual responsibilities.

Yet Mike,, you and the rest of the alt-right wingers are more than happy to insist you speak for "most people". I see it every don on OPP..

And you all hope the repression of all other view points will continue but at a much larger scale..

spend more... strange words coming from any one when in a time of a great economy, the orange love of their life is piling up additional trillions of dollars on the national debt when any responsible leader would be working to reduce that future hope k**ler..

But you feel it was only wrong when President Obama was forced to spend to fight the great recession..

Trumps gift to himself and the rich makes it all OK... no worry.. no matter..

Personally I prefer tartagrades, much more interesting and can survive at 800 degrees, or hybernate at 200 below freezing. Much more versitile than demodex as well as cuter.

My solution is for all Americans to be heard all the time, not waiting to see how many speak on e******n day. The majority of Americans are content to sit on their asses and see what Repubs and Dems are going to do..................then complain about it endlessly. I think v****g should be mandatory, or if nothing else - make it illegal for non v**ers to speak about policies or anything else that matters. The 1st amendment is only for citizens...................................that actually v**e.

Unfortunately you need a magnifying glass to see them, but they are interesting creatures. Rather like "sea monkeys" which brings up my memories of an episode of NIGHT COURT from years ago.
Yes, I do have a slightly warped mind.

Yes, the dems push the diversity issue when it favors them but are anti-diversity when it favors a conservative. Demonrats are indeed anti-diversity of thought and would be against all diversity if their i*****l a***n constituents v**ed Republican. That wall would be built in a second by the demonrats if those breaking into our country had good morals and carried a Bible with them! Of course that means they would be v****g Republican and not for the corrupt demonrat party.
