They were our allies in WW2, helping us defeat the evil N**is. And they lost many more lives in that war than we did. Since then they had a few bad apples running their C*******t Regime, but they are gone and no longer a problem. Khrushchev was the most harsh, but he has been erased from Russia's history because he fell so far out of favor.
Short-sighted Democrats want Russia as an enemy because Trump is trying to make peace with them and anything Trump does is baaaaaad. Furthermore, the Military Industrial Complex needs Russia as a boogeyman.
If they are friendly, why not treat them as friends. If the are not friendly, then the following t***h applies -- "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer". Reagan proved that when he befriended Gorbachev, ended the cold war and brought down the Berlin Wall.

I'd like that. The hindrance there is if president Trump makes friends with the Russians, the socialist-democrats will jump into him and say " See we told you so. Russia had helped him became president in 2016". Fact was in 2017-18, one of the plans of the president was getting close ties with Russia. But I think he stopped that because of the attacks on him concerning the Russia Collusion h**x.
Why is Russia a good strategic friend?
1. Most of the people of Russia as Christian Orthodox. They love to have friends with the Christian US.
2. Russia's economy is not really competitive at present, and I think Russia would love to align with the US perhaps for economic reasons.
3. I prefer to have closer relation with Russia because I think Putin and president Trump could get along well.
4. I prefer to be friends with Russia than the Chinese who steals our intellectual property.
5. And if Russia is our friend, perhaps we don't have much problem with Syria. Right now Iran and Russia are helping Syria. We don't want that because of Iran's ambition to get closer to the Golan Heights to destroy Israel.
Russia really could align with the US and this will help solve some of our problems.
When Reagan was president, he got along well with PM Gorbachev. Fact was they became friends.
Remember WW2 when president Roosevelt, PM Churchill, and Russia's Stalin were the 3 thinkers who defeated Hitler.
