That why they're called "mass shootings." And I was replying to Pete not to you.

And I was talking about people k**led.

Try to keep up moldy.

You can narrow and define the focus anyway you want, the facts remain.

Nearly 40,000 People Died From Guns in U.S. Last Year, Highest in 50 Years

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/us/gun-deaths.html

More people died from firearm injuries in the United States last year than in any other year since at least 1968, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
There were 39,773 gun deaths in 2017, up by more than 1,000 from the year before. Nearly two-thirds were suicides. It was the largest yearly total on record in the C.D.C.’s electronic database, which goes back 50 years, and reflects the sheer number of lives lost.
When adjusted for population size, the rate of gun deaths in 2017 also increased slightly to 12 deaths for every 100,000 people, up from 11.8 per 100,000 in 2016. By this measure, last year had the highest rate of firearm deaths since the mid-1990s, the data showed.
It was the third consecutive year that the rate of firearm deaths rose in the United States, after remaining relatively steady throughout the 2000s and the first part of this decade.

FBI statistics do not record the weapon in most cases, but you would rather believe in stupidity.

According to data from the Gun Violence Archive , a total of 340 mass shooting incidents occurred in 2018.
In 2017, the U.S. saw a total of 346 mass shootings. That is over a thousand each year.

No, its over a thousand deaths since they started counting deaths from mass shootings in 1966. Not 1000 in a year.

You are still wrong.

39000 gun deaths last year, a fifty year high, but only by about a hundred

I made the point that more are k**led by knives than mass shootings which is true. You went off in a different direction.

Gun deaths are indeed too high but no one really wants to address the fundamental problems which have nothing to do with guns.

Now you’re just being childish. So just for kicks I found sources and numbers.

According to gunviolencearchive.org there were 337 mass shooting incidents resulting in 371 deaths in 2018. I downloaded the spreadsheet to add it up.

I then looked at the FBI data from 2016 and did add up knife homicides - 1604.

For 2018 Statista.com has knife homicides at 1515.

Knife homicides outnumber mass shooting homicides by a significant amount. Fact.

The FBI has lots of deaths with no mention of the weapons. But the 40000 gun deaths reported, you ignore

Uh-huh. The point was never total gun deaths.

What you did was try and change the subject after being shown you were wrong. With facts.

And the weapons that weren’t mentioned could also have been knives.

You were wrong. Suck it up buttercup.

And you ignore the fact that more than 60 percent of people in this country who die from guns die by suicide.

Is this new enough for you? The 60 percent statistic has not changed since 2015.

Gun suicides: America's unseen public health crisis
Dr. Jonathan Fielding ~ 10/11/19 08:30 AM EDT
The numbers confirm what we already know: We’re facing an increasing epidemic of gun deaths in America. 2017 was the most dangerous year yet: U.S. firearm deaths reached 39,773, their highest level in 40 years, increasing 16 percent from 2014. The overall number of gun deaths is often in the news, but the stark surprise for many will be that 60 percent of those nearly 40,000 gun deaths were suicides, 23,854.
