As a kid, I still remember giving him insulin shots twice a day back in the 70's. He had worked at a steel mill all his life and retired with 35 years of service. I still tear up sometimes thinking about how hard it was for him to accept fate, to rise to the challenge that his life had forever changed, and to realize that even without that limb, he still had so much to offer. Sadly, just about the time he had learned to deal with his loss, God called him home.
When I asked the team of doctors who treated him "what k**led my dad, why did he die?" -one of them looked at me and said, "he died from a broken heart." I cried all night.
