Why are meteorologists around the USA upset now that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has declared that Alabama was indeed in danger from Hurricane Dorian? Who's right? The NWS, NOAA, or the person who ordered the NOAA to say so?

An opinion with which I agree....

"The timeline and evidence are clear. The NWS was right, as are the understandably outraged meteorologists.

Everyone should be outraged that a service which warns citizens about life-threatening e*****e w*****r events has had its credibility undermined not only by the President, but by the politically motivated non-meteorologist management of the NOAA.

The briefing given to Trump had no indication that Alabama was remotely at risk. There was a very low potential in the days before the briefing that a tiny slice of Alabama might be impacted, but that wasn’t included in Trump’s briefing. At no point would Trump have been told Alabama was at risk.

Trump made a mistake in his tweet. He was wrong. Unsurprising.

The NWS has a duty and it carried it out. It tweeted immediately that Alabama was not at any risk and pointed out which states were. That’s its job, to be accurate.

Trump doubled down on his mistake, as he always does. Facts are irrelevant to him. Especially compared to his ego.

The NOAA management tweet statement throwing the NWS under the bus was damaging to the credibility of a safety-critical, empirically oriented, science-based organization. That’s just wrong on multiple levels.

I'm responding to your post,Slat,out of respect for your realistic view of this issue...as opposed to the lead .
I live in South Florida,have been through several hurricanes,including Andrew.Citizens,authorities,Leo's take these "Cones of Death" as a general guide...only a fool would take them as Gospel. Hurricanes break all rules of logic,science and history.
Dorian hit. It's gone. Deal with the aftermath...send a couple bucks to the Red Cross. Pray. Please stop this childish arguing about the damn cone. Look at the Bahamas.
