I just read a story I thought I’d pass along…

About a HERO DOG who’s making national headlines!

Darby is a 1-year-old pit bull living up in Northern California with his dad, James.

James was enjoying a day of fishing at Bodega Bay when suddenly, something really heavy caught his line.

He it took him 10 minutes to reel it in, it was so massive. Then finally, when he pulled his “catch” out of the water, he got a serious surprise...

It was a SHARK!

The 6-foot shark twisted and fought, then bit down hard on James' ankle — puncturing an artery.

That’s when Darby sprung into action. He sprinted over to James, grabbed the shark by the gills, and tore him away... freeing his dad from the bite!

James told the New York Post he wasn’t sure what he would’ve done if Darby hadn’t been there to help.

I was amazed reading this story, for a few reasons.

As far as Darby goes… first of all, he’s only a year old.

That’s serious bravery. In human terms, that’s like a third grader stepping up to save the day!

Second, Darby completely put himself on the line for his dad. It’s a miracle Darby wasn’t hurt himself — the shark was far bigger than him.

You see, dogs know when they’re encountering danger. So it wasn’t that he didn’t know any better. It was that he was committed to helping his dad, even if he was going to sacrifice himself.

THAT’S what a dog’s love is all about.

In fact, it’s that same instinct that make your dog bark at a stranger walking by the house… or run to your side when you stub your toe.

They might just be running towards (or barking at) danger themselves — but that’s not the point. For your dog, YOUR safety comes first.

So give your dog a big hug today. Maybe they didn’t wrestle a shark off your leg this morning (thank goodness!)…

But this much is for sure: they’ve been thinking of you — and looking out for you — every moment you’ve known each other.

To happy and healthy dog years ahead,
Dr. Gary Richter

A close friend sent this to me today and I am passing it on. For all the dog lovers out there, give the dog a hug and an extra Milk Bone to say thank you for all they do for you daily.

That was most likely a bull shark they have found bull sharks 2,000 miles up the Mississippi river and they are the only sharks that can live in fresh water. A very interesting story and one that could very well happen here in the US.

He put himself on the line for his owner not his 'dad'. Its not like a third grader stepping up to save the day. Dogs aren't little humans and for a vet to speak about a dog like this does a disservice to the dog.

Dogs less than a year old have served in police departments with distinction. Many working dogs out there are working at less than a year old.

Its a great story. Lots of great dogs out there who make their owners proud.

I had a cat that confronted a Boxer coming to attack my wife and me. Stopped the dog in it's tracks. His (the cat) name was Putter because that's what he did. He had five toes on his front feet, a blue and a green eye, pure white and large. He would catch birds, butterflies and others and bring them to us as gifts. He never damaged any of the critters, soft mouthed them. At the same time we had a female cat who would bring us gift but she always crippled them. Go figure. The females have to feed the brood, the males don't.

The female died of feline leukemia. Putter committed suicide by running out in traffic two days after we brought our daughter home. He'd never gone in the street before.

I got him in a paper bag before he was weaned. He hid behind my fridge for three weeks before I could get him to come out. I didn't let anyone including my future wife come in my place because I was trying to get this little kitten to where I could pet him and erase his fear. His siblings were probably drowned. A little girl friend saved him and brought him to me in a brown paper bag.

I love all critters and kids. Mis-treat either in front of me and you're meat. Mike

I love stories about pets. They are all beautiful. I lost my beloved cat last 1st week of March 2019. Her name was Baby. She was only 6 years old, very fat. She was white with bluish eyes, 3 dark spots on top and dark tail. One day,I noticed that her food had not been eaten. I looked all over the house up and down several times, could not find her. Then the following day, I saw her at the living room looking at me as if asking for help. Right away I checked her. She was struggling to breath. I decided to bring her to the doctor. That night we had a heavy snow, and the driveway had 6 inches on it. I hurriedly scraped the snow for me to get out. I skidded and fell, fortunately, I was not hurt, but was able to remove snow to drive out. Placed my baby on the porter. When I arrived the clinic, the doctor took him out of her carrier, but she was already dead. Doctor said, she died of heart attack. That was the story of my cat Baby, and I cried and cried coming home. Every time I remember her I still cry. I missed her so much. Now, I am planning to get a small dog.

Stop grieving for the cat. Its way past time for that. You enjoyed her while you had her and took good care of her and that's what matters. Not everyone enjoys their animals or takes good care of them. Remember the good times.

You'll enjoy a dog even more.
