I am convinced that we will have to fight socialism in the not too distant future, but how we fight is the question.

at the time a gross violation of the rules of war? as for your ending question . shouldn't we help ? NO . I remember so many of you bleeding hearts condemning Israel , military personnel for shooting palestinians . because they were only throwing stones . would you stand in the street and let me throw stones at you ? now you want to jump in and help out the demonstrators in Hong Kong . I can hear it already . see , Trump , is nothing more than a war monger . tit for tat bait and switch . the demonstrators live in a country that is held and run by the c*******t party . although some of your own democratic party is pushing for socialism , right here in America . are you v****g for one of them ? then your not an American . your a want to be c*******t . taking the baby step into socialism . plus the region around Hong Kong , was in English control with an agreement to return the entire area back to China on a specific date . ////////////// back to your first part . if these rules did exist at that time , it was made up by a kings , barons , dictators and such, which had NO concern for the life of their warriors that they thought it was marvelous to see two opposing armies kneeling and standing , at a distance and shoot each other . gorilla tactics have been around for the longest of time . your a whinner and dis agree with every one that doesn't see the way you see things . no room to expand just a fixed point and go for it . to hades with everyone else .

In the US they would be legitimate, (meaning lawful), demonstrations. In China they are not legitimate demonstrations. They represent an i**********n. Different cultures see the same things differently.

Violence is a tool to be used as little as possible because it can destroy both the opponent and the protagonist.

It is to be used as the last resort to throw off oppression when the only thing left to lose is your own life. It is not to be used to further mundane goals and petty political ambitions.

We are fighting it now. The question is at what point does the fight end.

Never! Each generation has to do what is necessary to protect its freedom and way of life. Freedom is a new idea in history and so is the sovereign citizen. Look how many western civilizations are trying to return to state control of everything. Rulers and elites don't like having to answer to the people. They don't like private property rights. They are always looking for ways to return to the old status quo.
