Yes they raise food prices because they can. Absolutely no other reason! You all know I have been posting on this topic for many months, now I have noticed they are raising prices on seldom bought Items. A tub of margarine just went up 75%. These are things you might buy every 3rd or 4th trip to the store. There is no shortage on these items, and the list goes on and on. Hand lotion, tooth paste, fruits, ect.
And next I see losses in jobs that used to pay very large bonuses for for finding legal ways to screw the public. Do you see the trend here? But if the government raises minimum wage the process will start all over again.
GOD I LOVE THIS COUNTRY! What's in your wallet/

One thing, among many, that irks me is that the price of food is not considered when they calculate inflation. It is another misleading indicator of the status of the economy.

Food prices should be considered first in the calculation of inflation. You have to eat before you can do anything else.

Food prices are not going to skyrocket in the future. They are skyrocketing dramatically in the present.

Produce is a disaster because of the drought. Romaine lettuce is miniscule in size compared to its usual proportions. Avocados? The good California ones? You can hardly find them. Their Peruvian substitutes....they quickly go from hard to blackened with very little ripe period.

Citrus? Mealy and dried up. Watermelon? Mealy and juiceless. (The taste was k**led off years ago when they switched to seedless, another word for tasteless). Beer prices? Up dramatically. Some of the mass produced domestics like Bud and Miller are approaching the prices of the premium micro-brews.

Restaurants? Quality down. Portion size up. Prices up. We are eating out a lot less often.

Lastly.....Wild Salmon....you need to take out a bank note to be able to buy it.

Food prices? The very giant elephant in the room, important to everyone, regardless of party.

Paul Ehrlich promoted that canard over 40 years ago in his book "The Population Bomb". Technology and human innovation expanded available resources to keep up with the population. It had nothing to do with the bible.

BTW, Paul Ehrlich lost a bet with economist Julian Simon on this matter.

This is one area in which we seem to agree.

Remember that food prices took a sharp increase due to the cost of gasoline, and getting products to the marketplace. So I am expecting a drastic drop in prices now that gas is so cheap now, and expected to cost even less for the next 2 years.
I am looking forward to a healthier diet with a much lower cost at the market.

And I like to dream as well, but don't hold your breath looking for a price drop.

Don't know if that was meant to be a pun, but you hit the nail on the head. Americans who have been so used to the good life will not wake up until it is too late. There won't be enough high buildings for most to jump off of. There is a storm brewing and if something isn't done soon it will overtake us. We are like a ship tilted and filling with water more quickly everyday.

We see it, Armi. I just pray people will have the sense the pilgrims had when they found if they join forces, and share - they live - when they didn't - they died. Simple, maybe too simple.

Now I get it BearK, prices aren't going up because of greed. The Dollar is getting weaker by the second. The Bubbles are getting ready to burst in 2015! Wall Street is saying the water is fine, come on in! Come on in for what? A measelly 2&1/2% ? Inflation is here & we ain't seen nothin yet. A Bull Market for five years is insane when all we have to show is a 1&1/2% return on 401Ks & quantitative easing is suicide but it gives the rich the best shot of control over the economy. I Get It Now, but it's too late!
