LOL!,!. The applicants are guilty for being here, but Koch management is guilty of hiring(I said HIRING) the thugs. That’s what they are...thugs who knowingly broke the law coming here and, supposedly using false identifications. It’s time for our Justice Department to get on it and do something besides telling them when to “return to court”. We cannot afford to support anymore of them and we don’t have jobs for them. If there’s a job opening, hire an out of work American citizen.

The Onion, The Babylon Bee, The Borowitz Report...all premier news publications.

BTW, the Koch in that story is pronounced 'cook,' and has nothing to do with the Koch brothers.

The issue behind the humor(?) is--will the company be held responsible for hiring "i******s?"

Let's see if there is a lot of prosecution to go around.

Got the Koch part..in all seriousness, any employer who knowingly has i*****l a***ns on the payroll should be severely punished.

That is the point (or implication) of the Onion article: The now (after years [decades] of their employment) outrage from the CEO that '300 i******s slipped into my company without my knowing it. How could I up here in Illinois possibly have known that?'

How do you define 'severly punished'? A few thousand bucks per head? After all, he is providing that poor community (well, part of it) with real employment opportunities and we all know how it trickles down for the good of everyone :) .

The following may help, but I'm not certain if the laws vary or not from state to state...

Good start:
'The penalties for failing to verify employees can be very severe. They can range from $110.00 to $1100.00 per technical violation. Remember, employers have a duty to verify employment authorization for ALL of their workers.

'The penalties can be higher for companies with a large percentage of undocumented workers or a history of violations. In determining penalty amounts, ICE typically considers five factors: the size of the business, good faith effort to comply, seriousness of the violation, whether the violation involved i*****l w****rs, and a history of previous violations. If violations are found during an audit, ICE will then issue a Notice of Intent to Fine.

'Texas employers were fined over $600,000.00 in 2009, for example. With the economy being in trouble, it does not appear as if that will lessen.'

So it looks like the modest fines to individual firms are worth the risk of being caught employing i******s. The article says nothing about potential taxes not being paid to the government, a possible violation of federal law.

Why a restriction of "knowingly"? Isn't the usual axiom that ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law--especially when Koch can hire lawyers to determine whether one's papers are real or not?

I believe some i******s have actually slipped into jobs by nefarious means.

Employers who have been duped aren't liable for penalizing.

But...if a employer knowingly hires i******s, that employer needs to be fleeced down to bare essence to continue, that would be a start.

If draining the employers assets to just existing isn't good enough....ten years incarceration.

If stiff penalties aren't imposed, nothing will change.

Just as the DMV requires All legal citizens to show a authentic birth certificate to renew or obtain a specialized license, have all immigrants register for work permits...in the same manner.

Never friggin ever should identification requirements be more stringent on legal citizens.

I went to get a license to ride a motorcycle (rode for years without) the lady at the DMV told me my drivers license was only good for accountability, not bona fide i.d.

The only serious and lasting fix is...zero tolerance.

P.S....i strongly support v**er I.D's...no exceptions!
