Why is President Donald Trump so popular among Americans?

He’s not. He’s the first president in history whose disapproval ratings have always been higher than his approval ratings.

That said, about 42% of the country thinks he’s wonderful, which is… horrifying.

But here’s the thing. When he accepted the Republication nomination in 2016, his approval rating was 42%. Everything that has happened — both good and bad — in the three years since has essentially had no impact whatsoever on his popularity.

Americans either love him or h**e him, and his policies have almost nothing to do with that.

The core of his support is evangelical Christians, which is pretty funny given that he’s violated all 10 of those Commandments. They are also the people most likely to think America is changing culturally in ways that will reduce their status. To them MAGA t***slates to “Let’s go back to the days when we ran the show and everyone else knew their place.”

He also does well with the aggrieved. There are a lot of Americans who think “other countries have been ripping us off” and love it when he tariffs everyone from China to Canada. They’re not interested in the reality that tariffs are a tax on Americans. They’re not doing it for the revenue, they’re doing it to show the world who’s boss.

And then there’s a group that enjoys “owning the libtards.” They think it’s fun to watch trump trash mainstream news, the FBI, the State Department, all Dems, the “elites” (even though Trump inevitably goes on to claim he’s more elite than they are), etc.

Running through all three groups is anger and a desire for dominance. And that’s a pretty good description of Donald J. Trump.

You are so blinded by hatred that you must rationalize that hatred instead of actually analyzing the real reasons for Donald J. Trump's rise. Your central theme is that since Trump's popularity does not meet your subjective standards, that makes him a bad President.

You must have seen people in your life who were popular and were not good people. You also must have observed others who were unpopular and who later on proved their worth.

If Trump's popularity is really as bad as you claim then he will not survive ree******n. In the meantime you might find some other yard stick.

considering that most v**ers did not v**e orange, his sitting in our white house is an accident of the system.

Unintended consequence.

Ree******n, the thought causes anxiety because the impossible happened once, what if it happened again.
what effect would another war do to his polls.

Pompeo and Dalton think it would push in one more..

If he does get back in, all hope is lost and only the money will remain..

Come on, buck up. When Obama was in there all seemed hopeless to us. We made it through. The next 5 years will fly by, I promise. In 2024 you will have a really good chance to elect Bernie or some other C*******t. By then Bernie should be about 105 and will be even more seasoned than now. Those 4 young ladies who h**e Trump might even be legal to run for President by then. The long term future is bright for what you want. The short term, not so much.

With all of the l*****t s******n keepers and subterfuge drones parroting nonsense about our "duly elected" President, you'd think that his ratings wouldn't have hovered close to 50% all the time.

The left has proven to condone violent intolerance against other citizens, by not condemning A****a (but not limited to A****a) as the d******c t*******ts they t***hfully are.

Son, I know you do not want to consider the Bush recess as ever happening..

But it included the western world, all crashed and President Obama did by far the best job of recovery.

even with the never ending and nation hurting obstruction of the McConnell republicans Obama led the world to recovery.

Any chart of our progress will show this to be a fact you can not dispute..

trump did not hurt us much other then the tax gift for himself and the very rich, the meddling with trade agreements, the shotgun application of tariffs and the never ending attempts to end health care.

Maybe add the drive to have yet another war very soon..

Permafrost: your post 100% nails Trump right on the head! You have summed up the gist of why so many (42%) continue to support him -and you didn't use slurs or put-downs to do it! Bravo Zulu! The most grievous part of your post in my opinion was:

"The core of his support is evangelical Christians, which is pretty funny given that he’s violated all 10 of those Commandments. As a serious Christian, I am so saddened by what we're seeing from the 'so-called' evangelicals that support Trump. My God is not something to be toyed or played with -and He does not allow for playing games or straddling the fence - you're either a sincere Christian or not - only the serious need apply -no f**e "wannabees."

A huge part of the Christian faith is "forgiveness" for others and ourselves when we slip up and do wrong. However, there's also this thing called "repentance" -which opens the door for God to release forgiveness. Repentance involves a sincere and continuous effort to stop doing wrong (especially deliberate wrong), to demonstrate remorse (by confessing that wrong and apologizing to those harmed by it), and most importantly, consciously striving to not repeat that wrong. A fundamental belief in my faith is that once you know the difference between right and wrong -you don't deliberately violate that belief just because you expect God's forgiveness when you say you are sorry. So, with all that said, yes Trump can be forgiven for his past wrongs -but is no way free to deliberately sin against God and man with his blatant r****m, discrimination, sexism, and corrupt dealings.

Those who claim to be evangelicals, and continue to support Trump simply because he does one or two things they agree with are in for a very rude awakening. By our faith, God is the judge; and God teaches; "Do not be fooled for God is not mocked...wh**ever a man soweth, that he shall surely reap." So all of those so-called Christians should be aware that by supporting a man who deliberately and continuously mocks God they are jeopardizing their own souls in eternity for no more than "sticking it to the libs" - which in my opinion equates to about 30 pieces of silver. sad.

Once again, you nailed it....and thank you for sharing!

Thank you,

I should add that i do not like disparaging religious view.. I feel i am a christian... for sure I believe in God.
But it is a struggle for me to put my faith in any kind of neat package..

So many of us have little bits of differences in how and what we believe and I should not try and dictate how anyone else should believe..

I have some problem defining my own..

Thanks again, have a great day..

More Trump bashing, permie?. It’s what we’ve come to expect from you.
Why don’t you give Trump supporters credit for rewarding results. That’s really all we’re interested in. Who cares if he’s orange or purple? Or has a different hairstyle? I don’t care. And I don’t know any other Trump supporter who cares about any of your laundry list of complaints including breaking all 10 commandments, w***e s*******y, tariffs, MAGA being code for wh**ever, and on and on.
Have you bothered to notice that the US is the strongest economy in the world now? Or that America’s military is second to none?
And who even cares about that has-been Paul ‘Rino’ Ryan anymore? He has his chance to embrace the Trump agenda but blew it. So he’s ancient history.
Unless you can open your eyes to objectively appreciate all the good that Trump is doing for America, the next 5.5 years are going to be unbearable for you. So get on the Trump train and enjoy all the blessings that are the promise of America. Or get run over by an unstoppable force. The choice is yours.
