It's not the 'social media' part that I object to. That's just a small portion of Facebook's business model, and it's the rest that ticks me off. They're collecting highly personal data on you, and selling it to the highest bidder, no questions asked. Pardon me if I object to that, because they have no qualms in not asking the purpose of the so-called 'purchase'. If you buy into Bob Mueller's report on foreign interference into the last P**********l e******n, you'll believe that Facebook was a major source of both information and misinformation dissemination, bought and paid for by those who did not have our best interests at heart. Pardon me for taking exception to that.

Back when I signed onto facebook, it was an easy way to keep in touch with my family.

I saw it only as that.

If I were to be introduced to the system today, after much publicity, I would be much more hesitant to join.. I probable would not join.

As far as a roll in the Russian interference, while I have heard some strong accusations, i think they only served an outlet of Russian propaganda in info, rather then generating anything on their own..

Pretty sure that near everyone is PO by the information gathering which seems everywhere these days..

So why do I not drop Facebook?

I posted everything years ago, have nothing new to add (personal info) so the horse is not only out of the barn, it is far down the road..

I do not think i will join anymore such group. Or does OPP fit the same slot?

And include Amazon,, I do get frosted when I view some products on the net and minutes latter am overrun with ads for same type products..

If people only knew the who's and the how's of all the data that gets collected and sold without the user's full knowledge. It isn't just restricted to the internet, the internet is just the more visible and discussed source of data harvesting. Data harvesting CAN NOT be completely avoided, we can merely do our best to minimize it or what information we give freely and hope for the best.

Yup, probably long before you started logging onto the internet, even. Data is sold online even that which was acquired offline.
