Decades of research have shown that people get more conservative when they feel threatened and afraid.

I can’t comment on the analysis but who are the shrill, angry retaliatory voices out there at the moment? Neither side could claim exoneration but the Trump spectacle is now in advanced hysteria at the political shadows closing in.
Just look at some of the threatening invective
posted by some on OPP.

Guess you've never seen a video of A****A. You are one of the most ignorant posters on OPP.

How reliable is fear to produce a reasonable response? Does the "fight or flight" instinct to threat make for sound judgment?

Brain scans show that people who self-identify as conservative have larger and more active right amygdalas, an area of the brain that's associated with expressing and processing fear. This aligns with the idea that feeling afraid makes people lean more to the right. People embrace political conservatism (at least in part) because it serves to reduce fear, anxiety, and uncertainty; to avoid change, disruption, and ambiguity; and to explain, order, and justify ine******y among groups and individuals.

The major difference between Conservatives and Liberals is that Conservatives distrust human nature while Liberals exalt it. Having such contrasting views on who we are is, I think you can guess, vital to maintaining balance on numerous policies. Reagan and the GOP made Welfare recipients "bottom-feeders." The Left made them the political victims of r****m and corporate greed, almost heroes. You can see the need for compromise here.

It is probably because once they realize that the SOCIALIST/C*******T PROGRESSIVE Left are not good for them or The United States of America! I'm being very serious here! Once the majority of asleep people realize that the entire goal of the left is to completely disenfranchised them with loss of their rights they come to the obvious conclusions that they were wrong minded the entire time. It's actually a very normal response. Much the same as when a person has a really close and dear friend that you ultimately find out they have been stabbing you in the back the entire time. How many here on OPP have experienced this unfortunate experience? I have.

Guess you didn’t read my post properly.
I don’t condone senseless violence by anybody including A****A who may have had noble aspirations in the beginning but are now squarely part of the problem.
I will ignore your insulting provocation.

"Liberals exalt human nature"?? Since when?

The depravity of man is at once the most empirical verifiable fact at the same time it is the most intellectually resistant.

You are living proof of that.

Why the need to insult? Disagree, fine, but making it personal is petty and unworthy of discussion. I do not insult you, no matter how much for years you have insulted me and how much for years I have disagreed with you.

'Liberals exalt human nature.' "Since when?" you ask. Humanist Manifesto is the title of three manifestos laying out a Humanist worldview. They are the original Humanist Manifesto (1933, often referred to as Humanist Manifesto I), the Humanist Manifesto II (1973), and Humanism and Its Aspirations (2003, a.k.a. Humanist Manifesto III). The Manifesto originally arose from religious Humanism, though secular Humanists also signed. This will summarize all three: ""No deity will save us; we must save ourselves," and "We are responsible for what we are and for what we will be."

Das Kapital is another book that principally exalts the nature of humanity.

Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively, and generally prefers critical thinking and evidence (rationalism and empiricism) over acceptance of dogma or superstition. There are dozens of philosophers that argue to trust in and depend on human nature and the agencies of the mind to accomplish a Utopian Society.

You must have heard of the Utopian Society.
