Decades of research have shown that people get more conservative when they feel threatened and afraid.

How reliable is fear to produce a reasonable response? Does the "fight or flight" instinct to threat make for sound judgment?

Brain scans show that people who self-identify as conservative have larger and more active right amygdalas, an area of the brain that's associated with expressing and processing fear. This aligns with the idea that feeling afraid makes people lean more to the right. People embrace political conservatism (at least in part) because it serves to reduce fear, anxiety, and uncertainty; to avoid change, disruption, and ambiguity; and to explain, order, and justify ine******y among groups and individuals.

The major difference between Conservatives and Liberals is that Conservatives distrust human nature while Liberals exalt it. Having such contrasting views on who we are is, I think you can guess, vital to maintaining balance on numerous policies. Reagan and the GOP made Welfare recipients "bottom-feeders." The Left made them the political victims of r****m and corporate greed, almost heroes. You can see the need for compromise here.

I can’t comment on the analysis but who are the shrill, angry retaliatory voices out there at the moment? Neither side could claim exoneration but the Trump spectacle is now in advanced hysteria at the political shadows closing in.
Just look at some of the threatening invective
posted by some on OPP.

What threatening invective?

I'm not bothering with more of rumi's nonsense but I am interested in knowing what the threatening invective is. I must have missed it.

"Liberals exalt human nature"?? Since when?

The depravity of man is at once the most empirical verifiable fact at the same time it is the most intellectually resistant.

You are living proof of that.

Several people here consistently post that all liberals (and some RINOS) should be rounded up and shot, hung, executed, exterminated etc. included of course are Muslims and undocumented immigrants and Obama, Clinton, Soros and the usual right wing chew toys. I think you could call that threatening invective even if protected by free speech.
I have had PM’s threatening me with bodily harm for posting my views as recent as last year but that has dropped off because I suspect the Administrator cracked down.

Liberals seem to believe that in the end humans will find the right choices for the species whereas Conservatives seem to believe that we need a God Cop or a real one to force us to take the “correct” path.
