Every boy should have a dog when they grow up! I suspect that most of those who have shot up theaters, schools, places of worship, etc never had a dog and never learn compassion; instead, they became self-centered/indulgent, narcissistic, tilted sociopaths who never learned to care for others.

I agree and if possible, a horse.

They sure do. When you're in a group of people do you have to say the name of the person you're talking to? Dogs understand very well. The so-called "behavioral science" is way behind what a lot of owners and trainers know.

Rose, this makes my face wet remembering Max, 6F49, my faithful sentry dog in the old K-9 Corps. Pewee will probably log on because he, too, was a K-9 handler. Those of us who were called to patrol outer perimeters alone had full confidence in our dogs to alert and warn us of danger. This developed a very special bond.

Our Zoe girl died a short time ago and everyday without a dog in our home is a sad day. I've got a couple things I need to do first but bringing a dog back into our home is a very high priority. Thank you for the remembrance.
Rose, this makes my face wet remembering Max, 6F49... (show quote)

I do understand. If I think of Briggs very long I weep, still miss the most special one. But I loved Sam, Ty, and Nikki too. My civilian partner list is too long to list but Peewee was my shadow growing up and Princess who had the most beautiful pups would top that list. From mutts to cow dogs, I loved them all. Only ever had to get rid of one, a border collie named Ringo, his chewed up everything that fit into his mouth. Tarzan chewed through a chain link fence to return home after my dad gave him away then trotted twenty miles back home in less than 24 hours. How can anyone not love dogs? Unconditional love and they let you know it. Now I have to go wash my face. I miss my friends, wished they lived longer or I could have kept them all.
I've been very blessed and I know it. A boy, a can do anything horse and his loyal dogs and the problems of the world always faded away.
