A 2017 study estimated that 3.45 million Muslims were living in the United States. The U.S.-born share of the American Muslim population is considerable (42%). It consists of descendants of Muslim immigrants, converts to Islam (many of them black) and descendants of converts. Not easily contained, legally or otherwise. And many are US citizens: do we suspend their rights? Where does that lead for other groups, even, and perhaps eventually, for Christians in this growing secular society?

What do we do about them? Any practical, concrete solutions or plans to deal with them? A lot of endless ranting about how dangerous they are...and that does nothing. Tempest in a teapot. Why uselessly complain? But that's all that happens on this question. Threads on OPP outlining the threat and terror of nearly fourteen hundred years that Islam has existed and attacked Europe. What does that do? Wail against barbaric Sharia Law? What changes? Whine about Hijabs in Congress? Silly.

Is internment possible? Create ghettos to hold them? How about declaring all of Islam as a terrorist state, the protections of the 1st Amendment not applicable as a religion anymore? Then what? Civil war against them? Will Mexicans get thrown into the mix for good measure to resolve the immigration “problem”? Profiling and surveillance on all Mosques? Create special IDs and data bases for all Muslims? But remember, many are US citizens.

So, what to do? Any ideas? Real ideas! If the danger from Islam is as great as many here expound, present reasonable options to contain or subdue the problem. Or shut up! All you are doing is being xenophobic or r****t or boring otherwise.

First thing as a practical step, follow the laws that are in place. If they are wrong, then put them to a v**e to have them changed.

Second educate ourselves. Off OPP I got into a discussion on this very topic (I should perhaps dig it up to share). I had to educate myself by searching the web. To my amazement there are MANY Islamic sects. And that is because they do not all agree on the which writings to follow. Not ALL are anything, terrorists, peaceful, prayerful, etc. During the research I found (but do not remember right now) that the numbers of each sect varies greatly.

With knowledge of the religion ingrained in our legislative bodies, develop laws to address the beliefs of the different sects. By their own admission, some sects cannot and will not assimilate to American culture, DO NOT let them in. If they are already in, surveil them as members of potential terrorist organizations (we do it now with m*****as). Note, that in these sects (the violent jihadists) have no compunction about lying, in fact, are required to if it furthers their causes. They will meld in when necessary and follow Allah when called.

Members of the sects that disdain violence and have accepted the American Constitution should be left alone, completely.

So, STEP Zero, before 1, is to stop calling them Muslims, and refer to the sect(s) that you feel you need "to do something about".

I have grown less apt to defend Islam. Yes, I still feel that many, maybe most, could be peaceful and no threat, yet history and their tenets and Sharia Law have me questioning my position. Maybe it has more to do with the fact that there appears to be no viable action to contain or subdue the possible threat. Let them be and hope, or outright war. Radical Islamists come from all sects, the most populous sects are Sunni, Shiite, and Wahhabi, so it is no surprise that most of the bad guys come from these three.

Pew Global Research polled Muslims around the US, in Europe and in countries throughout the ME The poll centered on determining the level of support for terrorism and radical political efforts to impose Sharia. I don't have the stats at hand, but a surprising number of Muslims who are not involved directly or indirectly with terrorism are luke warm to hot on the idea. The imposition of Sharia rated even higher.

You're not going to be able to weed out the radicals by going after sects. There are peaceful, moderate and radical Muslims in all sects. Moreover, it would be a direct violation of the 1st amendment to pass laws controlling religious beliefs.

In addition, the Muslim Brotherhood has established 28 different associations, societies, and activist groups to operate in the United States. One of these is the Muslim Students Association. The MSA has chapters in 132 American colleges and universities, with chapters in all of the major universities. These are activist groups who hold to Sharia Law and promote it on campus. Interestingly, these Muslim students are seeking degrees in technology, engineering, business, political science, law, and government. There is little doubt that they are learning critical sk**ls with which to turn against us. They are doing so already in courts all over the country.
