I know that the quote is not something G W would have said. The Second Amendment states: "A well regulated M*****a, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The US was not a state but a Nation of states and m*****as were maintained only in the s***e states. Why was the term "free State" used, rather than "free Nation" or "free Country"? Actually, the term "free Country" appeared in the original version of the Second Amendment. However, the wording was changed to appease the s***e states. Why? Was it because influential s***eholders wanted the Bill of Rights to sanction s***e control m*****as? As H. M. Henry noted: "S***ery was not only an economic and industrial system ... it was a gigantic police system." Each southern police state was "kept safe"—at least for its white citizens—by armed m*****as. Unfortunately, if the free states wanted a Union, they would have to make a "deal with the Devil" in the form of terrible compromises with the s***e states. The first terrible compromise was to allow the ghastly institution of s***ery to be "legal" in the United States. A second terrible compromise can be found, ironically, in the Second Amendment. And that compromise is now allowing children to be gunned down by serial k**lers in schools like Virginia Tech University, Columbine High School, Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and even grade schools like Sandy Hook Elementary, thanks to the NRA and its gung-ho Second Amendment supporters.

Every single one of us believes in and practices responsible, safe firearms ownership and handling, and I haven't met a single fellow member who acts like a "cowboy" or endorses anything but weapons safety and sensible gun policies.

We do, however, support Americans' Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

The vast majority of the anti-gun rhetoric you see and hear is entirely agenda-driven and totally uninformed bulls**t put out by people whose only goal is to disarm the population at all costs. Most of the "information" about "assault weapons" and other firearms these organizations put out is technically inaccurate to unbelievable degrees as are the statistics they cite -- it's all about an end justifying the means.

The "liberal" establishment has a nasty habit of forcing unnatural agendas on the rest of us that we want no part of, yet it's not enough; they also feel the need to get into our business and try to deprive us of Rights we enjoy under the Constitution.

The NRA are not the villains these liars make us out to be, we simply belong to an organization that supports a Constitutional right, endorses what I mentioned above and, contrary to "popular" belief, also supports such policies as game conservation, firearms education, safe hunting and other firearms sportsmanship and competitive shooting.

It's interesting to note, incidentally, that in countries like England, where it's very tough to obtain a firearm, knife crime has reached a point where it is as big an issue as gun control is here in America.

Oh I have changed my mind Sen Barry writing his weekly syndicated news column managed to persuade me that conservatives had all the answers and could govern best and liberals and democrats were wrong. At the time I was a registered Democrat not because I knew anything but my parents were democrats. So my mother was not happy when I switched to Repblican since she had tought me that the Republican party was the party of big business but Goldwater was persuasive and I supported the party loyally for 30 years. Even though I was aware they wanted to destroy Social Security, were union busters, anti labor and pro management. I started my oswn business in 1978 and signed the labor agreement with the Carpenters and Painters unions. That year all the big developers and builders with drew from the master agreement in Concert. I rthought it was odd but did not see the conspiracy for another year. It would be a couple decades before I came to realize it was part of the conspiracy by business to declare war on labor and the middle class. The FDR New Deal had lifted millions of us out of poverty and into the middle class and the business class was sick and tired of sharing the nations wealth with the working class and responded to Lewis Powells 1971 memo ( also known as Powells manifesto) to the US chamber of Commerce which was a call to arms for corporations. By 1984 I was forced to with draw from the labor agreements when it was time to renew the contracts in order to survive the onslaught of scab contractors . At the time I was paying my union emloyees $20 per hr. plus $7.50 in benefits for a total package of $27.50 Today 35 years later a Journyman non union Carpenter earns and average of $26.50 per hr no benefits, and none of them can afford to buy a home in California anywhere near a city of any size.
