I was too civil with a recent thread. Do you agree or disagree that refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance is un-Patriotic

I will look forward to it. One of your indomitable questioning threads would be good.

I would look forward to this discussion you and CD are discussing, it would perhaps expand on what little I know of Islam.

Muslims claim to embrace both parts of the Old Testament and the Gospels... But also believe that they have been corrupted fron their true forms...
As such they also believe that Jews and Christians are fellow believers (ketabe- people of the Book) and not infidels...
Many of the stories found in these books are found in the Koran as well.. Although often with differences...
Example: Jesus was born in an oasis and could speak at birth... One of his first acts was to prove the innocence of his mother (Mary) and prevent her punishment (pregnancy before marriage )... They also believe that it was an imposter (created by God) who died on the cross and that Jesus was raised directly to heaven by God....

But we are diverging from your thread...
Apologies...
(Perhaps it would be fun to do a thread on the similarities and differences between the Koran and OT/NT... But would probably die a Quick and h**efilled death )
Muslims claim to embrace both parts of the Old Tes... (show quote)

Its interesting that the muslims you know believe differently than the ones I’ve known. Most had converted to Christianity and see no commonality between the two. One notable convert is Nabeel Qureshi who unfortunately died at a young age. Author of ‘No God but One:Allah or Jesus?’ Thats a book you should read.

What do the ones you have known believe?

You could simply read the Koran...
It's all in there...
They don't believe Jesus was God... They believe he was a prophet... Some have even argued that he was a greater prophet than Mohammed, for a variety of reasons...

I will grant that Islam and Judaism have more in common with each other than they do with Christianity...

Excellent insight. If Americans were more aware of what punishment came with the breaking of any of the Ten Commandments in Judaism, as well as other laws and their terrible reprisals, they would not be trying to put them on Courthouse walls. Here is a real dandy: the daughter of a priest who engages in adultery is condemned to burning alive. How would that work in the suburbs?

Why are these two faiths so savage and judgmental? Are they? I read something long ago that suggested that their many rules and their harsh disciple came from their desert habitat, just a reflection of an unforgiving place that demanded a level of attention to safety and dangers that was seen as mortally vital, their only sketchy control of a brutal environment. Maybe.
