So far, the ideas Trump has put into effect are as follows:

Fixing our trade deficit with other countries and getting us a better set of trade deals, and imposing a bunch of tariffs.
The results are pretty bad on this front. If you consider a trade deficit to be a bad thing, and Republicans and Democrats and Trump’s own advisors have repeatedly told him that it is not, because we are getting affordable products and our economy is a service based economy rather than a manufacturing based one, it might interest you to know our trade deficit with other countries has gotten worse since Trump’s trade policies, negotiations, and tariffs went into effect.

Why? Because the economy is complicated and so is economics. And those tariffs are making it less likely anyone else wants to buy American products, but Americans cannot stop buying Chinese goods, because Wal-Mart. Therefore, bigger trade deficit.

It is more complicated than that, but that’s just one major, relevant example of why his tariffs and trade ideas do not work. You can’t force China to buy more American products and you can’t encourage them to do so by slapping a bunch of tariffs on them, which means they respond with tariffs of their own, which makes American products more expensive over there.

Now, they can buy from other countries, products similar to what they were buying from the USA. It’s not easy and not perfect but they can do it. But it is a lot harder for the USA to suddenly move all their cheap imports to another country. What other one country can provide as much manufacturing as China can? India is already doing a bunch, they can’t double their workload overnight. Who else? There is no one country that can do it. The USA certainly can’t because manufacturing companies and jobs and decent wages vanished from this country a long time ago, and Trump is doing a good job pissing off all our other trade partners, so it is very hard for us to stock all the shelves at Wally World without trading with China, meaning, buying their products, even if they became more expensive thanks to Donnie Boy Trumpo.

So he has imposed the tariffs and renegotiated trade deals. The effects have not been good for the nation, and they haven’t even addressed his imaginary crisis which is the trade imbalance. When we buy products from China, we are not losing value even if they don’t buy stuff back, because we got a product of value in return. It’s called a fair trade.

If you buy more groceries from the local mom and pop grocery store than mom and pop buy gasoline from your gas station, it doesn’t matter that you have a trade imbalance. Trading at all is a good idea, since it keeps you both in business. If you raise your prices and they raise theirs, it hurts you more than it hurts them. Because of the aforementioned trade imbalance, might I add.

That is why the kinds of tariffs Trump imposes, and in particular, the reason why he is doing it, getting rid of the trade deficit, is a bad idea (if you accept that prices will rise for consumers, then it is the predictable and accepted downside of the idea). It just does not work as advertised, in fact, it can even have the opposite effect.

Before you fall asleep, I will move onto the next topic. Bottom line for the economics-impaired: economics be complicated and Trump don’t get it, and neither do you, and neither do I, really. I just know that it be complicated and Trump doesn’t seem to get that, which gives me the advantage.

Other ideas:

Giving a bunch of tax cuts to the rich billionaire political donor class and to himself, the rich millionaire class (factoring in all his debt, he’s no billionaire. He can release his tax returns as he promised and prove me wrong, but promise broken. By the way, banks in the USA will refuse to loan him money because he’s so in debt already and doesn’t have a lot of liquid assets and he has a long history of bankruptcies and not paying back what he owes or paying people what he owes even when there is a contract saying so.)
The end result will take years to see, but already, the federal budget deficit is going from bad to worse.

Under Obama, the national debt exploded due to the Bush economic crash and all the tax cuts passed previously, plus the bailout and the two wars. But by the end of his term, the budget deficit had been cut and cut and cut, and was trending toward zero. Had we continued along that course, it would be almost balanced by now.

Instead, the yearly deficit is now over a trillion dollars, and the tax cuts will cost us 11 trillion dollars over the next decade.

He has violated the emoluments clause. So have Ivana and Jared. Trump has tried to stall out the lawsuits over it until he leaves office, but they are proceeding. Just very slowly.
He only goes to his own golf clubs for vacation so he can get more from taxpayers.
He wants to pardon himself. An innocent man doesn’t muse about pardoning himself before even being charged.
He pardoned Sheriff Joe Arpaio without going through the DOJ and before he was even sentenced. Arpaio then ran for Senator of Arizona.
He pardoned Kristian Saucier who was found guilty of unauthorized possession and retention of national defense information.
The tax cuts leaned heavily toward the ultra-rich. Those for middle class expire, while the rich keep their gift from Trump. He has now caused record budget deficits.
To cut the deficit, Trump and other Republicans are looking to cut social programs and increase military spending even more. Trump said he wouldn’t increase military spending if NATO members increased their defense budgets. They have, Trump didn’t follow through.
He has repeatedly used immature nicknames for opponents as if he is the third grade bully nobody wants to play with at recess.
Trump makes inappropriate comments about women, evenworld leaders, on an almost weekly basis. He lied about bleeding from a facelift, called women liars for accusing men of sexual harassment, she’s a dog, cow, etc.
He hired the attorney that gave a sweetheart deal to Jeffrey Epstein, a prolific child molester, registered sex offender and friend of Trump family.
He is friends with Jeffrey Epstein and attended some of his questionable parties.
He hires from FOX News, even for UN Ambassador to replace Nikki Haley.
He insults our allies, uses Twitter to announce policy changes that affect them without advance warning, and cozies to hostile countries that want us to fall.
