We are already seeing a massive reduction in them. Believe it or not, contraception does work which is why there isn't a high school student in American who shouldn't know about contraception, where to buy it, and how to use it before they even go out the door. If they then decide to abstain then they have just used the best form of contraception of all!
Texas had some programs that were a success, until the right objected to it on the premise that education and condoms were encouraging sex.

Anyone who has sat through a sex ed class knows that sex was not encouraged...
Nothing like pictures of STDs and writing essays about parenthood to K**l the mood...
Unless American sex ed is different...

Some in America prefers that we teach abstinence only sex ed, no birth control, no contraceptives.

Is that a teacher standing at the front of the room shouting "dont do it" over and over again for an hour... sounds pretty scarring... Wouldn't want that in my head on my wedding night...

Haven't got a clue, we had some minor discussion of birth control/contraceptives and a whole lot of "don't do it".

Ours was very comprehensive...
Pictures of various diseases and lectures...
Pictures of various forms of birth control and lectures...
Speakers on the difficulties of early pregnancy and essays...
Parental role playing (stupid egg) and essays...
The worst was the condom demonstration...
We were all pretty excited about it... Probably fifteen or sixteen at the time...
The school counselor gave us a quick lecture on how condoms can break and where to get them and stuff...
Then she pulls out a banana... peels the top half... opens a condom and slowly starts to roll it down....
After about two inches the banana snapped in half!!!
Every boy in the room was clutching his funbits, silently promising to never use a condom...
The counselor never did salvage that class...
But (in my opinion) children should have comprehensive, age appropriate sex ed throught their school years...

Can you blame them for swearing off condom use after that demonstration?

Nope...
I am still nervous around the suckers...

I don't know about that, I think Mary and Joseph may beg to differ, immaculate conception anyone? But in all seriousness, yes, abstaining is not only the best way to avoid unwanted pregnancy, it is one of the best ways to prevent STDs as well.
Well, we are assuming that Mary and Joseph were honest in their protest of celibacy. Had Joseph given Mary the clap I don't think god would have been claiming paternity...

As if teenagers can be 'encouraged' to have sex!

Yes, he would have been demanding a paternity test on that one. I am totally with you on that one.
In that day and age, men and women looking to be wed, they were required to cohabitate for one full year BEFORE they could be wed (actually a good idea, it allows them to see what married life MAY be like BEFORE the nuptials) and during that time, they were barred from "knowing" each other in the biblical sense. If a woman became "in the family way" before their wedding day... Does anybody know what the punishment was? It is entirely possible that Mary became "in the family way" too soon before their wedding date to pass off as something that happened on their wedding night. If Joseph loved Mary enough, he could have worked with her on a story that would absolve them both of guilt.
I am not saying I was h*****g out with Mary and Joseph back then, I am not claiming I received that information from a reliable source, I am merely shining light on a plausible alternative to immaculate conception.

I believe the premise is:
If it's not something they should be doing why teach about it...
Teaching about it provides "consent"...
I***tic premise in my opinion...

I call B.S., a teenager CAN be "encouraged" to have sex, it typically involves her saying "okay". I was a teenager once, that was ALL the "encouragement" I ever needed.
P.S. Yes, I know what you meant, I just had to be an arsehole.
