How many times have been up against this closing the govt mantra. It happens every year or so and the Dems keeping using it against the Republicans and they keep falling for it. I don't know if Trump has something in mind along the lines of talking directly to the people at the SOTU address but I hope he can articulate his position. I still say he is in a tough position when he has to fight the media at every turn.

Exactly!!!....If Democrats dont come to the table for Border Security including Border Fence then the next Shutdown will be on their heads...Or he will declare National Emergency and will take it all the way to Supreme Court!!!

If he was going to "cave temporarily" why didn't he do this at the beginning instead of punishing 800 thousand government employees needlessly? And you said this shutdown was on the Democrats from the beginning. Trump is the one insisting that his campaign promise of a wall is imperative for the safety of this country--even though he's shown no study that says so. As such, any shutdown is going to be on Trump as it has been all the time.

The only reason for the shutdown was the fact that, Congress did not pass a spending bill, before this.
