The article fails to stipulate how many of the "legal" drugs were stolen from the intended recipient, or taken in robberies of pharmacy's. The deaths by teens and young adults were the result, I believe, in an effort to get "high", as they do from illicit drugs. I'm not condoning the deaths, but merely trying to put them in their proper perspective.

Can we agree that the over use of drugs Legal or other wise is a major problem?

Perhaps so, but one can't change human nature. People will do what they wish, regardless of consequences. The War on Drugs has failed miserably, as did prohibition.

The only one who can make any changes in their nature is that person that wants to change.

We all keep changing our self in ways big & small. Some changes are for the better some do not work out as well.

I think & agree that you & I can't do much to change others.

But we can offer help & guidance to others towards their changing.

I feel the best way to influence others is by example.

And who do you think are the biggest drug and arms dealers?

My government for guns and the large pharmaceutical companies for drugs.

Children in my neighborhood are given medications for ADD if the child gains a little weight or is need of a little discipline. Some parents would rather drug their kids rather than parent their kids. Kid won't behave in school give him a pill. One doctor is so hung up on weight, she gave my neighbor's kid ADD meds because he was ten pounds overweight. My neighbor changed doctors and got the kid off his computer and playing sports.

The doctors and large pharmaceutical companies have most of American on a daily dose of some drug.
Antidepressants are handed out like candy. Feeling a little sad, here's a pill.

Pills Spilling out Prescription Drugs Now K**l More People than Illegal Drugs

“Pharmageddon” is Upon Us
Death by medicine is a 21st-century epidemic, and America’s “war on drugs” is clearly directed at the wrong enemy!

Prescription drugs are now k*****g far more people than illegal drugs, and while most major causes of preventable deaths are declining, those from prescription drug use are increasing, an analysis of recently released data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) by the Los Angeles Times revealed.

The Times analysis of 2009 death statistics, the most recent available, showed:

For the first time ever in the US, more people were k**led by drugs than motor vehicle accidents
37,485 people died from drugs, a rate fueled by overdoses on prescription pain and anxiety medications, versus 36,284 from traffic accidents
Drug fatalities more than doubled among teens and young adults between 2000 and 2008, and more than tripled among people aged 50 to 69

Again, these drug-induced fatalities are not being driven by illegal street drugs; the analysis found that the most commonly abused prescription drugs like OxyContin, Vicodin, Xanax and Soma now cause more deaths than heroin and cocaine combined.
