City Gives AR-15 Owners December Deadline To Submit to Rifle Count

It sounds like the beginning of a dystopian horror film: the government telling citizens to line up and have their firearms counted, or face severe disciplinary action.

For residents of Boulder, Colorado, this nightmare scenario is all too real.

In May, the city council v**ed to ban possession of high-capacity magazines, bump stocks and so-called assault rifles. Residents would be barred from selling these items as well. With the prospect of door-to-door confiscation apparently too much of a hassle, the city decided to grandfather in people who already legally owned the rifles.

There’s only one catch.

To continue legally owning an AR-15 or other assault rifle, gun owners are required to “certify” their gun with the Boulder police. Authorities have declared a Dec. 27 deadline for certifications. After that, any resident owning an assault rifle will be in major legal trouble.

The Daily Camera reported the punishment can range from a simple fine to imprisonment and destruction of the firearm.

Problems with the law’s implementation are already starting to arise.

Although the police claim they will not be making a database of gun owners, the number of rifles brought forward is being recorded by authorities.

Out of the city’s 100,000-strong population, only 87 have stepped forward to certify their assault rifles. Police admit duplicate certificates exist in their count, so the actual number is even lower than that.

CBS News puts gun ownership in Colorado at a little over 34 percent. Assuming the city of Boulder has roughly the same rate as the rest of the state, this means there are still around 34,000 firearms that remain uncertified.

To put this in perspective, the state’s own Army National Guard has only 5,300 uniformed members. Actual enforcement of this law would understandably not go over very well.

Fortunately, our country does not seem to be at the point of outright door-to-door confiscation, no matter how close the left is edging toward it.

Residents are not being left to fend for themselves, thanks to a pro-Second Amendment law group.

The Colorado State Shooting Association, along with support from the NRA’s Institute for Legal Action, has taken aim at the unconstitutional law. The groups are both fighting to protect citizens’ right to protect themselves from both criminals and government tyranny.

Once the ultimatum date arrives, it’s unclear what steps authorities will take.

With the city’s deadline approaching fast, legal gun owners may be weeks away from becoming unwitting fugitives from the law.

You could verify that you have had your shots. There appears to be a difference of opinion on that score.

I made oatmeal cookies and just found out that I grabbed the wrong spice container.
I used cayenne red pepper instead of Cinnamon.
They taste ok to me except they’re spicy.
Don’t think I’ll send them to my daughter for Christmas though.
Might call them Mexican Oatmeal Christmas Cookies

Well Carol they have been trying for how long now??

I live in Colorado and Boulder is it own little haven of self regulation of the stupidity act!!

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban enacted in 1994 expired in 2004. Attempts to renew this ban have failed, <have failed, speaks volumes>as have attempts to pass a new ban, such as the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 (AWB 2013). Seven U.S. states have assault weapons bans: three were enacted before the 1994 federal ban and four more passed before the federal ban expired. The majority of states, forty-three, have no assault weapons ban, although two, Minnesota and Virginia, have training and background check requirements for purchasers of assault weapons that are more stringent than those for ordinary firearms. While there are no statewide assault weapon bans in Colorado and Illinois, local bans exist in certain cities or counties in each of these states.

For about the second time I totally agree with you the only thing I would take into account is I'd not take action against those Officers who refuse to enforce an illegal law. I have experience with this. Scared the S out of my wife until I got home and the Cops walked out and probably were saying to one another, crap I wish I could put that together. All legal. Mike

LJ, I say Merry Christmas to everyone, if they are offended, that's on them. Most at business get a big grin and say and to you too. I understand that as political correctness requires them to respond neutrally. At our age and with what is boiling around us, F em, the h**ers. I for one am going to offend some because I'm not going to cower, I'm not going to go out of my way to offend but I AM going to be how I was raised and if that gets me k**led, so be it.

To all here on OPP, I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year and may we all be healthy and in good spirits.

I don't know how to do it but if someone knows how, maybe set up a thing for some here who are in need of some help, no matter what it is. Mike
