City Gives AR-15 Owners December Deadline To Submit to Rifle Count

It sounds like the beginning of a dystopian horror film: the government telling citizens to line up and have their firearms counted, or face severe disciplinary action.

For residents of Boulder, Colorado, this nightmare scenario is all too real.

In May, the city council v**ed to ban possession of high-capacity magazines, bump stocks and so-called assault rifles. Residents would be barred from selling these items as well. With the prospect of door-to-door confiscation apparently too much of a hassle, the city decided to grandfather in people who already legally owned the rifles.

There’s only one catch.

To continue legally owning an AR-15 or other assault rifle, gun owners are required to “certify” their gun with the Boulder police. Authorities have declared a Dec. 27 deadline for certifications. After that, any resident owning an assault rifle will be in major legal trouble.

The Daily Camera reported the punishment can range from a simple fine to imprisonment and destruction of the firearm.

Problems with the law’s implementation are already starting to arise.

Although the police claim they will not be making a database of gun owners, the number of rifles brought forward is being recorded by authorities.

Out of the city’s 100,000-strong population, only 87 have stepped forward to certify their assault rifles. Police admit duplicate certificates exist in their count, so the actual number is even lower than that.

CBS News puts gun ownership in Colorado at a little over 34 percent. Assuming the city of Boulder has roughly the same rate as the rest of the state, this means there are still around 34,000 firearms that remain uncertified.

To put this in perspective, the state’s own Army National Guard has only 5,300 uniformed members. Actual enforcement of this law would understandably not go over very well.

Fortunately, our country does not seem to be at the point of outright door-to-door confiscation, no matter how close the left is edging toward it.

Residents are not being left to fend for themselves, thanks to a pro-Second Amendment law group.

The Colorado State Shooting Association, along with support from the NRA’s Institute for Legal Action, has taken aim at the unconstitutional law. The groups are both fighting to protect citizens’ right to protect themselves from both criminals and government tyranny.

Once the ultimatum date arrives, it’s unclear what steps authorities will take.

With the city’s deadline approaching fast, legal gun owners may be weeks away from becoming unwitting fugitives from the law.

I'll bet this doesn't go well...

The Colorado Shooting Association and the NRA should file for an injunction and the sue the City of Boulder, the City Council, law enforcement agencies and all others that support this unConstitutional bulls**t.

Then the moonbats that thought this idiocy up and their supporters should be required to register and have a big orange dog collar and a flea collar permanently strapped around their necks.

The working class should r**t and burn down what hasn't already been burnt incalifornication like in France. A fuel tax hurts the working poor and those that make their living driving while the 1% wealthy don't even notice it. ANY flat tax is regressive!

They can’t do much about gun owners who refuse to certify their rifles... They need confirmation by the Supreme Courts to be able to enforce on the deadline..“By definition, effective governing must be practical and enforceable.”When something isn’t enforceable, like they just nake i***ts of themself..

Boulder has a no smoking anywhere in public yet people do and they can’t do anything about that either..

The city is dem control thru snd thru as well..

D********g! But not as bad as California's insane laws.
Years ago I owned a legal AR-15 in Cali. One day I took it to my local gun shop to have some modifications made on it. As soon as I showed it to the gunsmith, he told me to take it out of his store because it was a felony to possess that gun!! I'm thinking, "What the hell? This is a legal gun."
He explained to me that the legislature had recently passes some laws, of which I was totally unaware, which made that AR-15 illegal to possess in California. So long story short I had to get rid of the gun on the black market because it couldn't be sold anywhere in California, and pawnshops in Nevada needed proof of residency to pawn a gun in Nevada.
So, I purchased a new, AR-15, fully compliant with the existing Cali laws - at that time.
I recently learned that my new AR-15 is now again illegal to possess in Cali., because of some new laws. To tell the t***h I had heard about that law about a year ago and went onto a website the state had provided to register your compliant AR-15. After wrestling with the site over an hour, I gave up in frustration. So now I am again in possession of an illegal AR-15 in Cali which I purchased with the express purpose of not possessing an illegal AR-15.
I've heard that there's been a lawsuit filed because nobody could navigate the website the state had provided to register the AR-15s. Just another day in the dark blue land of fruits, nuts, and flakes.
