I Agree With A Business Owner's Right To Refuse To Cater To Gays, But Make Them Own It
Someone posted a piece on businesses where it should be the owner's right to refuse to do business with someone they have a problem with such as gays, bed and breakfast, wedding cakes, wedding photographer, etc. I can see the instances where this would be their right to respectfully decline dealing with people that make them uncomfortable, offending their religious beliefs. Fair enough, but the people in question have every right to be forewarned that this is the case rather than enter someone's shop and be rejected because they are gay.
A sign on the door or window stating that due to their religious beliefs that they would appreciate if gays respected their beliefs and take their business elsewhere. Any advertising would have the same message or a symbol that is synonymous with this message, that their religious beliefs prevent them from doing business with gays.
Gays for the most part would shrug their shoulders and say "screw them, I'll take the business elsewhere". That said do you know what a business k**ler this would be to openly state that your beliefs prevent you from wanting to cater to gays? Social media alone can hit businesses by business k*****g margins when the word gets out. Society finds these beliefs and attitudes to be repugnant, and signs like this would turn a solid percentage of the business away. So you have a bakery and you put a sign up like this, all of a sudden you are selling 30% less french bread, donuts, and bagels.
Of course those on the right are going to say wait a minute, you can't make a business owner put their religious beliefs out there like that, they don't want everyone to know their religious beliefs...
...to which I say exactly, keep your religious beliefs to yourself, or put them out there. If gays have a right to know you are a bigoted h**er everyone has a right to know that. Society is setting this crap straight, and if you don't believe that just put a sign up that says you reserve the right to refuse to serve gays and see how that works. Yeah, you have the right to practice your religion, go for it, be honest, put it out there.
We live in a small town, but it's large enough that businesses can form niches that allow them to be quite prosperous. My wife as a veterinarian used a compounding pharmacy for almost 30 years. They were actually quite overpriced and Jeanne had made comments about them having a $25 minimum which made it costly to prescribe smaller amounts of something that she would be pricing at ten or fifteen dollars. We drove right by their business on the way home, and the founder of this family business that supported half a dozen family members had put up a huge banner across the front of his building about v****g NO on a gay initiative, with a "God H**es Gays" statement.
My wife asked me if I'd seen the sign and I asked her how could I miss it? Jeanne said she couldn't believe Bill would put something like that up. She said there was no way she was going to continue to buy from them, she was looking at online compounding pharmacies. Within a couple of days she had found one that had no minimums, so she could have them set up individual orders for her clients and then mark them up accordingly, which was going to save her a lot of money.
About a week after the sign was up she stopped by and told the owner that she couldn't believe he would put something like that up, that she'd thought he was too nice a guy for crap like that. After three or four weeks the sign came down, and Jeanne gets a call from one of the kids in sales. They said they had noticed her orders had gone way down, she said she wouldn't do business with someone that would put a sign up like they had, and besides she had found a much cheaper alternative that didn't charge a minimum. They told her that they had retired the old man, that their business had been hit by almost 50%, and they would waive the minimum because she was such a good customer...
They were out of business within a few months.

That would not work. Even if such a sign was posted activist gays would enter anyway, demand service, and then sue if they did not get it. They are determined to thrust there radical agenda upon everyone. Only Christians can be discriminates against.

woodguru, the dishonesty in your monologue is really distasteful. The Baker, and all the others have never refused the f*ggots business. They have only refused to provide the “Artistic” part of the business that they prefer not to provide.
You know all too well that the Bakers haven’t disallowed the “nambla” enablers to do business with them. You only bring this up to stir the pot.
Why not be honest for once and just state that you h**e Christians and that your wife was out looking for cheaper products ?
If your wife was really a Veterinarian how much did she charge for simple procedures like neutering cats ? One Vet here charges 150.00. Our family Vet charges 35.00 so tell me is she inexpensive or just bigoted ?

My business is teaching concealed carry and I refuse to teach anyone that I feel uncomfortable with. If I don’t feel that in my opinion you are a responsible person to carry a firearm, I won’t teach you. You will not get a certificate from me. I don’t care what you do behind closed doors I won’t teach you.

Well, you wouldn't want to teach this guy for sure!

I have no problem with christians, I have a problem with h**ers that don't have a clue what a christian is. Christians do not h**e gays, they do not v**e against gays having the same rights you or I have, they do not h**e b****s or mexicans as a group.
To me the hard right that h**es gays, b****s, and mexicans are what Muslim terrorists are to Muslims. Muslim terrorists use the Muslim religion as an excuse to h**e and terrorize, which is the same as the hard right does.
There are five million muslims in this country, yet there are far more right wing terrorist acts against minorities and people of the muslim faith than can be attributed to muslims. Most christians (the ones that know what a christian is) are good people, most muslims are good people. I have a problem with muslim terrorists the same way I have a problem with hard right h**e groups. Please do not confuse and conflate the difference between christians and hard right wing h**ers.
