I welded some of that crap years ago and it’s nowhere near American steel.
I now purchase most of my steel from the scrap yards as this is some of the last places that we can get our steel and not worry about the quality.
You should be running articles about American Companies that are actually producing American steel.
Google American made products, support Americans not c****es!
petey, an American company importing chinese steel... (show quote)

The problem is on the retail end where the customer is looking at the price more than where the steel originates. Now of course you true blue (or should I say c****e red) Americans don't mind paying more for something made in the good ole US of A but we are talking about businessmen who are looking at the bottom line more than anything else.

So buy American made steel and solute the f**g as you weld it...Oh wait, forgot to read the title--it's Texas pipe manufacturers who are being hurt by Trumps tariffs. Careful, you might just be getting some of that cheap Chink pipe you so loath...

" Chink "?

Well, with a world wide economy he didn't have to place the tariff in Texas for it to be felt by manufacturers there. I thought you people were all economic whizzes and understood that kind of stuff but I forgot I was dealing with you--clearly not the greatest economic thinker on the board. Let me know if I need to go slower.

You can go 5 times as fast if you just start telling the t***h.

President Donald Trump's tariffs are hurting a Texas steel pipe manufacturer.
Borusan Mannesmann, which makes pipes for Texas' oil and gas refineries, estimates that the 25% tariff on imported steel will cost the company up to $35 million a year and k**l its plans to expand and hire more workers.

The company imports steel tubing and casing from its parent company in Turkey, and finishes the products at a factory in Baytown. It is seeking an exemption from the tariffs and is awaiting the administration's decision.

"It would really impact the community, which already has a 10% unemployment rate," CEO Joel Johnson told CNN's Poppy Harlow in an interview Wednesday. "We want to grow."

So they use poor quality steel versus good. Understood.

A project cost's at least 10 times more if it can't pass X-Ray inspection. Ya have to rip it all out n' start all over
usin American Made Steel. How's that for the "bottom line"

Now petey, isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black ? I have yet to find a true American Conservative that’s a socialist/c****e like yourself.
The back story here is stop supporting c*******t countries and the businesses that support them and BUY AMERICAN!
When I worked for a union shop( gte & verizon) I was amazed at how many of those “ union guys” wouldn’t pay for American Union made items and purchase chinese crap and than b***h about what was happening to America.

And why is it poor quality steel--because it's foreign or because US providers use it to be cost competitive with their competition. What amazes me is that you people call yourself free market Capitalists yet you don't seem to understand just exactly what the free market is or what it does--if the steel was sub par then the customers would reject it and the suppler would stop buying it. The fact that it is still being purchased tells you the quality of the steel and that Trumps tariffs will raise prices and cost the United States suppliers jobs. That's what should matter but it's a point that seems to be lost to you supposedly free market capitalists as you spin yourselves dizzy around the irrelevant...

petey, if you welded at all you would understand what it’s like to prep the steel for 10/15 min. getting it ready and everything set and the first thing you do is blow a hole in the piece because it’s crap.
The other thing that happens is it warps faster than American steel. Do the bosses care ? Hell no, it’s your job to deal with it and make it work.
America is strong and getting stronger, but you better hope all of our steel mills comeback online if it really looks like War because your c****e friends sure aren’t selling us steel to use against them.
The Chinese will be busy dropping our fighters out of the sky and than all of our electronics won’t work but that’s ok just keep buying c****e crap.

There has been a world wide over capacity of steel production for maybe like forever. America has gotten screwed. I looked up the figures for imports and exports of steel into the US. The sources do not agree with one another, but they all agree that we import 2 or 3 times what we export. We are the biggest steel market on planet earth and everyone dumps their excess on our market, k*****g our steel industry. Those poor poor poor Europeans are scared sh**less because all of that Chinese steel that will not be coming to the US will be dumped on the EU. Poor poor anti Trump clowns.

Again, if it's inferior then a free market will take care of it. We are dealing with the worlds largest manufacturer in China so perhaps this Texas pipe manufacturer found a producer who meets all his standards in steel. Wh**ever the case, what is important--and something we keep losing site of--is that the presidents tariffs are once again costing jobs for those who likely v**ed for him. You are welcome to trust that Trump knows what he's doing but we've already had 22,000 job subtracted from what was already a very good jobs report. We are likely to have good numbers through August but eventually the layoffs and jobs reports are going to come together and show the effect of Trumps poor policy decisions. Unfortunately that is going to be right in the middle of when you conservatives are trying to hang onto the house and senate...

Well they are going to sell it somewhere. China accounts for half the worlds production. China's problem is that the EU only accounts for 10% of the worlds consumption so can't even touch all that China has to sell. Now for the US it's not very big in terms of steel production consuming about 90 million metric tonnes and importing about 25 million metric tonnes from all other sources, including China. China on the other hand produced about 808 million metric tonnes and consumed about 681 million metric tonnes so if they wanted they could flood the entire worlds market and there isn't a damn thing anyone could do about it.

What Trump has done is bring a water pistol to a gun fight because the only thing China is going to do is get bigger and if the US want's any share of the world steel market then they are going to have to specialize and build a product so much more superior that that's the reason people choose to buy it cuz it looks like the US has already lost their hand to a free market...unless of course, you could convince the Chinese to stop producing so much god damn steel!!!

I'm a businessman, I don't weld, but what I know is that the US produces only about 25% of what the Chinese do so there is no competition to be found here. The Chinese can produce more steel than we know what to do with and there isn't a damn thing that we can do to stop them. You can run down their steel all you want but you are the ones who swear by a free market and in a free market they blow the US out of the water. What advantage is Trump trying to find here? If I were the Chinese president I would be laughing all the way to the bank. A free market is a great thing unless you find yourselves on the bottom. If that's the case just what do you think Trump can or should do about it???
