Thanks for the links. I read them with interest. We used to make the things that the world bought. Now we buy the things the world makes.

True. Many reasons why. Some fixable? I don’t know. Actually the production of Steele and aluminum could be seen as a National Security issue. Strange times we live in.

I'll go along with that. I would like to see a new aliance and trade agreement made with our latin American neighbors and Canada that is tariff free for members.. Just a thought . We ought to be working toward making the western hemisphere financially strong and socially stable. Heck we could use that ourselves. just sayin. In other words re negotiating NAFTA is not a bad thing but dropping it all together would just cause higher prices. Sending jobs to cheaper labor markets is a way for many companies to stay in business. We are probably stuck with that. We can't lower wages for our workers who still have to pay ever increasing amounts for housing.. I believe we can sell more products on the domestic market if the worker/consumer has more disposable income. Give them raise or reduce their cost of housing-- how to go about it I am not sure.

Sounds nice but are you up on the fruitcake who just won Mexico’s e******n? The t***sition from one administration to another is a while away but we could very well see war with Mexico. This guy is for helping people cross our border from anywhere and says he will not fight the cartels.

Sounds pretty bleak. Mexico is our ally. War with them seems unthinkable considering our many ties.

Ally? Really? What the hell do they do for us? Come on Tom. This isn’t about the migrant worker. Look at La Raza lately? Seen any of their holidays. They spit on America while being on our soil. Not all Mexicans of course. Not even a majority. Enough though to make this illegal invasion need to be stopped. You worry about tariffs hurting your business. You should. But you’re smart enough to know uneducated unsk**led workers drive down wages. Don’t forget the burden put on all public services with all these people.

Much more and very complicated. What would you do?

Snip>>These tariffs will reduce overall U.S.-China trade, increase costs for U.S. producers and consumers by up to $11.5 billion, or, most likely, result in a combination of both.

We already know US soybean farmers have been slammed and Harley Davidson is moving their manufacturing plant overseas due to the tariffs. The problem with Trump is that he has the economic mind of a gnat. He survived in business by going bankrupt but all the businesses he's squeezing here will result in equal bankruptcies that only happened because of Trumps misguided economic policies. Then to make matters worse he is intentionally making enemies out of friends. America was never great when it was an isolationist and it will never be great again without our American, South American, and European partners. Russia will never come to our aide whereas Canada and Europe always have...

I have no problem with legal migrant workers. Had a bunch working on a horse farm years ago where I worked. They worked six then went home six months. Another group probably related alternated. All done legal. That's not what we're talking about here. Right?

Perhaps easing restrictions to legality would help-- raising quotas etc.. Legal is legal and Agriculture needs labor
