American consumers don't care. A few years ago, when everyone was talking about environmentally safe products and packaging, I was in charge of a big market research project. People who said they wanted "safer" products were asked, cleverly not directly, what they would be willing to pay as a premium, answer, nothing to 2%. Check your store's shelves, what happened to less excessive packaging, new forms, NOTHING? The American way is "let someone else pay"?
