Town government helps, the state government has little idea who needs help, and the federal government has No idea, they do not even know which end of a dog eats let along what people need what help. Lots of local areas have word of mouth action committees and the word spreads and food arrives on a doorstep, or a couple of out of work men come to help repair a damaged roof, they have the time, and will be happy to help, no charge, except maybe for dinner. Cities have more of a problem as the personal connections are seldom there.

What you speak of is as it should be and often is when in rural areas but not so much in cities... Its no time, can’t get involved, or don’t don’t want to get involved..
In a catastrophe I always swell with p***e because then we all do get involved, want to help as we don’t ever want to be in that situation ourself.. While catastrophies are horrific the will of the people rises above and beyond to the occasion!! Something shines through and renews our compassion of humanity for all.. Race, creed, color does not matter..We are just people helping people...
