I believe the facts are that conservatives are far more concerned with PROPER education than are Libs/Progressives. I noticed someone saying that teachers are confounding the Constitution, which is a great shame if true. Our kids need to understand the Constitution in its entirely and with well-verified background information, such as from The Federalist Papers. In my opinion, Conservatives are dead set against the avoidance of good education as is expounded by John Dewey, et al. Secular Humanism decries the teaching of realist civics and government to students.

The hindrance of public education is the quid-pro-quo relationships between the SEIU Labor Union and the Democrat party. They focus more on the enrichment of their own lives, rather than the students.
By using we the taxpayers, as the financiers of their massive demands for lucrative salaries and benefits, without any performance improvements upon the students.
Thus the decays of public schools resulted to US having the lowest rank among students academic sk**ls and performance. During the times of Obama, US was just a mediocre, that out of 100% percentile, US ranks in the middle of it. Why?
Taxpayers who fund these massive non-productive public schools, and along with the students turned out to be victims of the Labor Union and the democratic party. Public schools became too politicized.

In my opinion, education is the responsibility of the states, not the federals, hence that department, DE, is operating beyond its necessary scope. There is one task that needs doing by the feds, however, and that is to supply funds
with no strings, to level the playing field for poorer states' education programs, preferably by legislative fiat, and with a sunset clause.

That is why I mentioned vocational training leading to decent jobs. Also why I mentioned Home Study, which anyone can use to their benefit. I said nothing about everyone becoming brainiaks, that is not on. But I do believe in striving for a better understanding of the world around us by hook or crook.
understanding the world by hook or crook? are you criminally minded?
