Remington Arms has announced an expansion plan into Alabama that will create 2,000 jobs in the state, while simultaneously reducing the workforce in their current Ilion, NY home, and Governor Cuomo’s SAFE Act was a catalyst in making it happen.

This past summer, reports started surfacing that Remington Arms was scouting for new locations for their largest manufacturing plant. The new plant would bring with it over 2,000 jobs and $87 million in initial economic impact.

High level sources have informed Yellowhammer News that Remington, one of the world’s largest gun manufacturers, will on Monday join Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley in announcing that they are bringing over 2,000 jobs to Alabama.

The company is viewing the move into Alabama as an expansion, but it will likely impact their Ilion, NY plant as well. The New York facility currently employees around 1,200 people. It is expected to stay open, but with a reduced workforce.

“The company is making the move as an expansion of capacity, production and research,” a source told Yellowhammer on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. “The demand for Remington products has skyrocketed recently, for obvious reasons, so they need to increase their production capacity. They will be expanding their research capabilities with the Alabama plant, too.”

The initial estimated impact on Alabama’s economy will be roughly $87 million.

The report states that Remington began its review of new locations after passage of the SAFE Act which banned magazines containing more than seven rounds, and reclassified the Bushmaster – a Remington product – as an “assault weapon.”

They won't stop until NY is reduced to Chicago standards. Won't be long now and only criminals will possess guns. These politicians are full of emotions and nothing else, what sort of moron would v**e for more guns laws? Cars and disease still k**l more people than guns every year. I would bet there are more humans k**led by a******n as well.

I can not understand who would ever focus on creating new guns laws and I for one am against giving up anymore rights as a free citizen in an otherwise free country. BUT I have checked this rifle and I don't know why any DIY hunting big game would need a gun like this, I can only guess that some are terrible shots, want to make Swiss beast, or desire to massacre an entire heard. Evertime you hit your k**l with a bullet you loose meat!

Companies moving to the south have only one thing in mind and magazine limitations or gun reclassifications has nothing to do with it. The main reason is they can get uneducated dimwits to do, at pauper wages, what others were doing for living wages. After all, the bottom line is all that matters to them.

I'm sure Gov. Cuomo is broken up about a gun manufacturer moving to Dixie. Hear that......that's the sound of the world's tiniest violin. Its just breaking the heart of New York state. $87,000,000 to a state like New York is just spare change. I'm sure the Democratic party is thinking, "good riddance".

Brian,
Your post makes me think you are really just looking for any way to keep from facing the t***h. Too bad.

An old saying, "you got to hit a jackass between the eyes with a 2X4 to get his attention"

Wonder if it is starting to get the dumacrats attention yet?

We welcome all who like the 2nd amendment down here in Texas.

I used to fly all the richest folks around the world and when MD raised their income taxes "to make the nasty rich folks pay their fair share" those nasty rich folks just move where their residence was from MD to the islands. I mean they had a home in the Bahamas, CO, MD and who knows where else, they didn't have to "live" where the gov is stealing from them.

The amount of taxes collected by the way, went down so the middle class who didn't have a collection of houses had to pick up the slack because we all know the the libs who work for the gov NEVER take a pay cut.

So true, we need jobs for those willing to work.

It's sad really, when they need to go to the fed gov pleading to bail their sorry asses out because they drove out all of the jobs and tax base. I see it everyday as one company after another bolts for the Dakota's. Minnesota's economy is diverse enough to weather most any storm but the never ending expansion of gov intrusion and new taxes. You would think the son of one of our countries greatest retail entrepenours would know better.

More gun laws won't do anything until they use the laws that are already in place. Last night I was reading how here in Florida they were looking to make new laws against outdoor neighborhood gun ranges, only one problem, they were having problems finding any. I know of two but both are well away from population.

I believe we should all send a congratulatory letter to President Obama and NY Governor Cuomo. Between the two of them, two DEMOCRATS, and with help from the DNC have actually succeeded in producing jobs Mr Obama promised years ago. I never thought Democrats could produce jobs, but one cannot deny this. Increased sales are attributable solely to Mr. Obama and the DNC. However, it took Mr. Cuomo to send jobs to Alabama, a southern state which can usually use extra money and extra jobs. Mr. Cuomo also deserves a thank you note for sacrificing jobs in his own state in order to help out those with totally different political philosophy from the two politicians. Remington probably would have built the new plant in NY, for convenience's sake, but with people who like guns being told to not come to New York, I think the company was innately wise in choosing the south in which to begin new production.

Congrats to President Obama, Governor Cuomo, the DNC, and Remington for this extraordinary help to the south!!!

Thank you for jobs in the South
Thank you for jobs in the South...

Both will suffer raw fingertips from furious typing trying to rally the troops. If they had ever done a mans work, they would have callouses, and wouldn't peter out so soon because of the finger issue.

Irony, is something the democrats have a hard time understanding. They just don't get it every program, piece of legislation, ideological concept has consequences.

This is just another example of how they failed to think through their policies and having the exact opposite result happen. Instead of less guns they now have more guns.

Maybe Connecticut will lose all their gun makers too! H**e to see all those people lose jobs, but hey, you get what you v**e for.

I think we should view the real up side of this move.. Remington did not leave the country.. Most guns are now made overseas.. Our manufacturing base in near non existent.. It has become unusual for a manufacturer to relocate and not go to Asia.. As the company is expanding overall, seem to be a win for the USA....Looking at a Henry catalog the other day, they have remained in the present location since the 1800s.. Corporate loyalty is another rare commodity..
